Good job, keep going amigo.
I agree 100% amigo, I See it this way, all the energy that goes towards doing the exercise is left there, doing nothing, thats when the brain comes in and starts making things up, basically going round and round on things that dont exist(or making them way worse) only in your mind..

Once you take all that energy and use it into something helpful, useful or w/e, the brain is left in peace and quite

and way to go Ron, by the times it looks like you busted your ass, thats how you do it brother

Just got back from this ride, first decent cycle of the year. Club riders much fitter than me, gonna ache a bit now.

trying to get fit myself.

Depressingly I got to 18st at my peak. Going the gym regularly, 4 or 5 times a week. Lost a stone already.

trying to eat healthier too, eat less carbs and cut down on the beer a lot.

ideally get to around 13st when I head off to Latvia in 2 months, but that's probably losing way too much weight too fast

Good work - do you cycle regularly?

I've just been on a training weekend to the Lakes with my triathlon club (TR here). We did a pretty big ride, taking in three of the parks big mountain passes. Here's a pic of me towards the top of Honister Pass. The road you can see behind me was the gentlest section of the climb, the first half was beyond brutal.

Very nice pic and ride.

I commute on bike but that's only 4k or so, like to get at least one 50k+ ride a week in, but weather has been putting me off. Determined to start getting back out there.

Followed you on Strava. I don't put much up on there as my rides are automatically downloaded to GarminConnect, but I do transfer them sometimes as the segments ability on Strava is great. You should start a log in the h&f forum imo. There are a few of us logging triathlon training and another guy that's a good cyclist.

I'm doing an hour at the gym 5 times a week. I've cut alcohol out my diet and really cut down on carbs. I used to eat a lot and sometimes late too like 11pm, but now I'm literally just eating 2 small meals per day. Plus some fruit for snacks. I'm losing weight, but it doesn't seem to be happening as fast as I'd like.

Considering I ate a lot and drank quite a lot + never worked out, I thought I'd lose weight pretty fast. Any tips?

I guess the obvious is just to go to the gym for longer?

Losing weight is entirely down to calories in vs calories out.

First you need to work out your calorie maintenance level by inputting your data into a calculator like this one: http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/.

Then you need to set yourself a calorie deficit. Eating at a defecit of 500 calories/day roughly works out a 1lb (0.45kg) weight loss per week.

Then you need to track and log the calories in everything you eat. Using a site like myfitnesspal.com (and it's smartphone app) is perfect for doing this.

There are millions of different 'brands' of diets out there, but anything that works only works because it gets the user to follow the principle of calories in < calories out. Anything other than that is purely for compliance/branding reasons.

Exercise is good but in general it is much easier to cut x amount of calories from your diet than it is to burn x amount of calories by exercising.

Have a look through this thread.

The guy started off arguing that he knew everything about weight loss and was genetically disposed to be fat. Eventually he listened to the above advice and decided to give it a go. He's now lost 150lb in 10 months.

It's mainly powerlifting orientated threads, with some weightloss and some random terrible threads (like the juice fast thread that just started). Is good for keeping a log though and I'm sure there'd be some interest. Here's the other cycling thread in there (link). My log (link) and a couple of other triathlon logs (link, link).

Went to the gym today for the first time in about 3 months, after 20 min on the treadmill I thought I was going to die, and didn't even run that fast :/ Better start going more often!

second injury in 3months

my body is failing me!!!, getting old at 25

wrist injury due to 60 DB squats, waiting until the end of the week to see if the pain stops or else go to doctor

gonna probably switch to lunges for my quads to avoid this injury occurring again

Hey guys, nice threat! Im also looking to get more fit atm. Im not overweight or anything, fairly ahtletic figure (gained in my teenage years) but I havent been doing much over past couple of years so i wouldnt say im in a particularly good shape atm.

I want to improve my stamina (if thats the correct word for being able to run longer ) and gain some muscles as well - not like bodybuilders kind of muscles more like soccer players kind of muscles...

Im gonna go running for a bit today (and hopefully 2-3x a week in the weeks to come)

Im however quite unsure on what would be the best way to build more muscles for me. I dont really have the money to buy a full-time gym membership atm. Friend of mine knows a guy who has a gym tho who lets us in for free, but bc Im only home over the weekends I get to go like once every week or two only. Does anyone have an advice on what would be the best way to exercise at home with not much equipment (i could maybe buy like a barbell for arms or something but preferably i look for some bodywight exercises)

^^^ you scream i am a female when i read that post

but umm ide suggest some kind of circuit routine for you

pull ups, dips + buying adjusted dumbbells is what ide suggest on a low budget, along with running up hill

you can also get creative & buy tires & flip them, i wanted to do this as well but haven't gotten around to it

@punter... what injury you had incurred that had led to you being out for 7months?, sounds serious

No such thing as "kind of muscles". Bodybuilder's muscles are the same as soccer players muscles. they're just bigger. "I don't want to look like a bodybuilder" is one of the most common phrases of people starting out in the gym, as if they only have to look at a heavily loaded barbell to make their muscles suddenly explode. If you want to gain muscle, then do heavy compound lifts, on a program such as Starting Strength. Worry about getting too big when you come to it (ie after about 3 years of dedicated training). If you can't get to a gym to do proper lifting then you can do bw exercises at home. You'll get in shape but you won't really build much muscle as you won't be able to put a high enough load on your muscles.

yea the only way you build muscle while doing bodyweight exercises is if you were doing a gymnastic routine

read somewhere that there was a 130lb gymnast who could deadlift 400lbs without ever deadlifting b4... dont know how true it is but point is you gain functional strength + get in gr8 condition + some muscle gains

but yea listen to ron, gaining too much muscle like a bodybuilder is not something people stumble on like its a easy feat

I tore my Plantar Fascia. Not all the way through, which meant I had to go the slow route.

It's a crap injury, especially if you like running!
