True story..... The wife (sitting beside me on couch) glanced at computer while I was scrolling past :-) Exo's pictures.

Took a bit of convicing to tell her it is a poker website. :-)

Another 26km done on road this week for me.

Age and lack of motivation stop me doing any weight/gym type exercise. )

The good thing about road running is once you are out there and half way through it, if you feel like quiting you still have to get home by walking.

Good work on the distance - don't listen to the haters! Have you got any plans to race at all?

Less than 3 weeks to go till my first race and I'm pretty excited. Had to cut down my training a bit because 8-10 sessions/week was burning me out and causing too many injuries. Have developed a decent enough base though, just need to keep sharp and stay injury-free now.

No such thing as too cold. Only under-equipped athletes.

Edit: Translation: Buy a warm jacket. And stop being soft. Or exercise indoors.

Doing a 10km fun run on April 14th.

Hope to run Dublin City Marathon in October if I can manage that distance.

Although no training next week as I am going to Spain.

What kinda times can you guys run 5k and 10k?

I had 24 minutes for 5k and 52 minutes for 10k but that was years ago

Last edited by x_ROSH125_x; 03-27-2013 at 07:45 AM. Reason: I don't run any more (knee injury) but do cross trainer 5k's

Only done one race since I started training and that was a fell-race so the time doesn't really mean anything. Kept meaning to get to a ParkRun to test my 5k time out but this year's training's been hit so hard by injury that I haven't got round to it yet. My estimate for 5k right now is 20-21 min but one of my aims once I've got my training back on track is to get sub-20.00.

It's still tomorrow...

My problem with the cold is not the jacket, it's the breathing. Any suggestions there?

And yes, I'm lazy.

Muscle strains should heal within a few days, week or two max if it's bad. Taking anti-inflammatories will take the pain away but won't do anything to help it heal. In fact there is a point of view that they actually interfere with the healing process (inflammation is part of the way your body heals itself). Whatever you do, don't use the painkillers to help you train while you still have the injury because you'll just end up making it worse. Probably the best thing for muscle strains is active rest. Do exercises that put the affected area through it's full range of motion but do them at a very low intensity but on a regular basis. You shouldn't make yourself feel any pain, you just want to stimulate the injured area and get blood flowing to it. Self-myofascial release (SMR) is great in the later stages of an injury like this too, check out the guide that was written in the h&f forum: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/85...dback-1209610/

Of course all this info is based on it actually being a muscle strain. There are tons of other injuries that all have their own treatments, although active rest and SMR is good for the majority of them.

^^^ ron thanks for the info, btw lets say it heals & im ready to train again next week, should i reduce weight at first & if so for how long??

Yeah def use reduced weight for at least the first session back, then just see how it feels afterwards. It's kinda tough to answer, you just have to learn how much you can push your own body. It's a fine line between being overcautious and pushing too much, but in general I'd say it's better to be overcautious than to go too hard and just prolong the injury.
