so split what do you think of shot taking higher up? is it odd that i dont really like to play 200nl and keep coming back to 100nl because i hate having 1-2k swings in the matter of 2hrs?

It's the same game, you just gotta get accustomed to swinging a lot more $$ wise (maybe BI wise too). Also, how well you're rolled helps.

This is so true for me. I've decided to increase my bankroll requirement for shots from 25 to 30 BI's, hopefully that will help a little. But I know I'll still be thinking 'there goes twice as much as I would have lost at my regular level' when I lose.

This is the big difference between $50 and $100 for me. I have an insane number of buy-ins for $100, and I still cringe every time I get stacked at $100. $100 just feels like "real money," to me, while I can shrug off getting stacked at $50.

The other thing that bugs me about playing $100 and getting stacked is that stacks are harder to come by at $100. So when I lose one, I know it will be harder to come back from that loss.

I was 8 tabling rush for a while (1600-1700 hands/hr) and recently went back down to 14-16 normal tables (1100-1300 hands/hr IME) and it feels so much slower. I have time to think, and make quality decisions now, and i'm no longer just super auto-piloting.

I think 4 tabling rush would be a lot different than 8, and you'll probably have more time for each decision. I'd make sure to get a HUD that is responsive, and to work on your deep stack play (stacks get super deep sometimes in rush).

+1 to winning stacks being harder in general at 100. Seems to be a theme as you move up. The importance of set-mining and cracking overpairs goes down a ton

tbh, this is why I play more 50NL now a days than 100NL. I realized that I hate $1K swings regularly, and it seeps into my real life and makes me angry. I am much better with it now, and will probably start playing some more 100NL and 200NL in the future though. You just need to keep working on your desensitization to money and creating a huge disconnect between money and value...if that makes sense.

10 BI swings are really that common? That would tilt me for sure.

F. Ill never make it to 100.

All this sounds crazy to a 25NL player. Maybe I'm just not desensitized to it yet.

Re: *** Let's Chat About Win Rates! ***

i hit an interesting run of cards last week in an hour and swonged 7bi in the positive in about 800 hands (100nl). that can happen the other way too. i mean they arent THAT common, i have had a few months where i dropped 4-5bi at the most (running decent) but in december i had 3 -10bi downswings at 100nl and still won at like 2.2ptbb or so. i have a pretty good winrate at 100nl (even though you wouldnt know it from sne attempt...do not suggest unless you have a high mental fortitude) so i have yet to have like a 20bi downer there. and this is after 600k+ hands.

the first -2k session i had at 200nl hurt a lot lol. even though i should have forced a stop loss. but 200nl is aggressive as **** depending. or nitty. it's very weird regardless.

but you def shouldn't be afraid of moving up or whatever. it's still just poker fundamentally.

So if you can withstand the feeling of bigger swings, and feel you can adjust quickly, then by all means shot it. It took me about 6 times (give or take) to finally make 100NL my home when I was shotting...for some odd reason I kept adjusting to what I felt the game would play like, not what it actually played like (if that makes sense). If you can play 100NL, move fluidly between levels if need be, and keep a learner's attitude while doing so...I think its a solid idea imo
thanks, this was re-assuring as others have said. For me more so because I'm hoping I don't freak out and that I can maintain a decent wr still moving up.

One thing that always helps me to forget about the money value is this:

"I only deposited 25$ dollars, so if I lose my whole BR, then I theoretically only lost 25$... and the time. But the time was fun, and if I didnt use it for poker, I'd play World Of Warcraft, which is way less educational for IRL."

Although, given that I am pretty strict @ BR management, I dont usually think about losing the BR :P

Yeah and APB is on the way as well. This year isnt good for former gaming addicts. (And yes, I am glad I quit WoW, but now I hear Cataclysm is reaching us soon, so...)

P.S. I think we are derailing the thread a little bit. So what was your winrate like in WoW?

Starcraft 2 is just coming out? Isn't the first one like 15 years old?
