I thought this hand would come up. To answer your question as briefly as possible, no it is not wrong "right now". Your in a spot where you can still profitably set mine and you dont have to worry about balancing your range or polarization. Having said that....
The idea of this video was to give you a tag winning mind set. There are a few things bad about cold calling the 3bet there. First off, you are out of position. Second off the pot is going to be multiway. When it comes to 3bets we want to have more of a fold or 4bet type mindset. That isnt saying that spots wont arise in the future where you can profitably call 3bets in position against certain players, but our goal right now should be to make things as simple as possible on us.
Also, I feel like this JJ hand has been beat to death, but I would like to talk about it. I started off this thread by saying looking back I wish I had three bet the hand, which would have been the correct play. I also mentioned in the video that I would play for stacks if I got 3bet on the flop, which is also questionable. Ok, so lets look at this. I PLAYED A HAND -EV. Guess what? I do it everyday, and so do you. I mentioned in the video about having a plan as to what you are going to do, and even if that plan was incorrect it is better that you have a plan than have no plan whatsoever. I surely could have gone back and made another video where I didnt make those two obvious mistakes (JJ and 88), but I thought it be better that I show things the way they were played out and make the correction afterwards. I stand by what I said in my video, the things that separate winning players that move up actively and loosing players that never get a grasp on the game is the fact that a winning player will take the time to question why they did something afterwards and look for a better way to play a hand.
