I'm playing 10NLH 7 handed with a pretty LAG table with the exception of some tight players that look pretty good and are winning and I try to stay out of hands with them. I get in this hand with one of the LAG players and this is what happens... we both have equal stack sizes around $10

hero on the BTN with 55

UTG- folds
EP- calls $.10
Villain- raises $.30
HJ- folds
Hero- calls $.30
SB- folds
BB- folds
EP- calls $.30

FLOP: 8Q5 (pot $1.05)

EP- checks
Villain- checks
hero- checks

TURN: J (pot $1.05)

EP- checks
Villain- bets $.52
Hero- raises $1.50
EP- folds
Villain- calls

RIVER: A (pot $4.05)

Villain- checks
Hero- checks

villain shows 7Q
Hero wins $4.05 with 3 of a kind

idk if checking the flop was a good move unless it allows my raise on the turn to be called but I felt as if the flop was dry to barrel. (please provide thoughts here)

and once the runner runner straight hit the board I was to scared to barrel the river in case of a check bluff or check-raise.

please provide thoughts on if he would have barreled the river I was expecting to flat call = pot and under but fold to shoves. would that be correct? or is that to nitty?

thanks in advance

I'm betting flop I think. Villian has plenty of Ax hands in their range that they are seeing a turn with. Flop bet could easily be translated as a button steal by the two players that are oop. Turn is fine but as played I am betting the river. All of the villains Ax hands now will x/c river and pay us off.

You should bet flop since you are last to act. You have a safer time value betting or bluffing. This means people perceive your range as more weighted to bluffs and thinner value (e.g. top pair) than if someone before you bets, and are more inclined to call your bet. Turn is good but you should value bet river 1/2 pot to 3/4 expecting to be called by more than just the 8 combos of T9s/KTs.

Bet every street and bet big. Try to get as much money into the pot as you can. Never even thinking about folding.

Agree with the others, and you can't be scared of a straight on that river. There are so many other hands in his range that you beat and might call a bet.

1. bet that flop for pure value. tricky play ok, lets c the turn (tbh not even bad, dry board only giving T9 a freecard, even i doubt he's checking this or the OESD. So almost i agree check back is fine to extract the most and let him pick something or some equity-

2. he bets half pot, ok now your tricky play goes right. sizing? 3x is good. 1.25 or 1.75. i like if he has somthing he continues.
Very tricky would be just to call the turn bet and any raise any non heart river ;-)

3. witch runner runner staright u c here? KTs one combo vs all that who can call a bet? sizing? 2.5 to 3.25. Must bet river as played. Extract the value you missed from the check back flop!

It's funny I didn't c bet. My c bet % is probably to high as is. Almost all the time. But I was having one of those days where every time I hit the board I couldn't get ANY value at all. Everyone fold when I wanted calls. When I got in this spot i thought to myself "ok don't scare him off" but then I thought I allowed him to draw on me by the river. I know I'm confident in my play to bet for value but have you never adjusted your play when you feel like your being read as only having strong hands or think your doing something wrong to not extract value but only folds. So I went for check bluff. Sorry if this sounds fishy but I'm trying to think deeper into my game to turn into a winning online player I do pretty good live but online I never seem to win. I think of it like when you play a video game against your friends and kick their ass then go online and get your ass kicked lol. Thank you to everyone that has responded. Much appreciated. Also what are some recommendations that really helped turn your game around?

Read through the main COTW's and make sure you are implementing the concepts into your game. It's not stupid to think that you should trap, or to change your game based on your results. You just have to understand why we do things a certain way on 2p2. In this instance we bet mainly to get max value and because we won't get action if they don't have a hand either way. There are good times to trap at these stakes but they are rare, you will figure it out later, for now just value bet.

Thank you. So I should be betting my sets no different then any other hand that has value? Just because it's most likely the best hand doesn't mean it should be used to trap.
