raising the flop allows him to fold bluffs/weaker hands and at the time I found it unlikely he'd be stacking off with worse than my hand if I attacked him on the flop and proceeded with aggression on the next street

i'd agree if he didn't donk full pot... from what i've seen at 50nl and below, half-pot donks are almost always very weak, but full pot donks are usually weak TP hands. And stations don't fold weak TP hands.
all in all, it probably doesn't make a huge difference in this situation
