2c, full ring
not many reads; has two stars, seems to C bet a lot from position, could be ok/standard

Feel free to tell me how and why I botched this hand, but there's one thing I'm thinking I may have done ok, and that was finally consolidating this idea of 'getting worse to call'. In doing that, I checked the
flop and got a bet, then I fired the turn for value. No real reads except that this opponent seemed to C bet a lot, so I figured worse hands would give me value. On the river the reason I called was because I was thinking 'if he's got a better hand, wouldn't he bet smaller to not scare me a way' - that is, I literally took the inverse of that 'better fold, worse call' approach and applied it to him. If his hand is goddamn great, why shove the whole thing in?

Hero (MP): $1.92
CO: $2.00
BTN: $2.40
SB: $0.80
BB: $0.73
UTG: $4.79
UTG+1: $1.36

Pre Flop: ($0.03) Hero is MP with Q A
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.02, Hero raises to $0.06, 1 fold, BTN raises to $0.20, 3 folds, Hero calls $0.14

Flop: ($0.45) J Q 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.23, Hero calls $0.23

Turn: ($0.91) 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.44, BTN calls $0.44

River: ($1.79) 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $1.29, Hero calls $1.05 all in

I would iso bigger pre, and then fold to the 3B. Calling puts us oop with a hand that has bad reverse implied odds. i.e. it can make a lot of 2nd best hands that we'll end up paying off.

What hands do you think both 3B pre, CB the flop AND will call the Turn that we are ahead against? I can think of one and that is specifically KQ which may not even call the turn. Everything else that villain might reasonably 3B pre, CB flop and call the turn, we're behind against.

Think about it more in terms of relative hand strength. AQo is a strong hand but, in relative terms, in 3B pots, it's strength diminishes.

You really need to start thinking about ranges for your opponent. Donkbetting turn for value is ridiculous vs almost all of his range as scoopmonkey explains. Calling river is even worse.

This is a clear fold after the 3B vs most villains.

You mean pre, ronin?

Aqo 3 bet gainst regs better is fold?

I've been wanting to ask that.

As for scoop monkey: good point dude, you've laid it out in a way which just make it seem obvious; thanks for the input; I mean of course, what worse is 3 betting my position c betting and then calling turn: almost nothing

Yes fold pre, think about what you would be 3betting here in villains spot, probably almost 0 worse hands and a lot of hands that dominate AQ in some way (AK/AA/KK/QQ).

I think I need to start looking at 3b ranges better here;
you guys are right, god this was bad.

I've lost more money with AQs/o than any other hand, I think. I definitely don't like playing it oop in a 3b pot vs someone I think is even halfway competent.

That's not exactly true... We did open from the hijack.

Personally I find that 3bet ranges don't have to be particularly narrow here, especially since it's a BTN 3bettor's range vs a LP iso of a limp (if we're competent/confident post flop we're probably going to be isolating pretty wide vs what appears to be a meh limper).

As for the hand itself, Ron!n and ScoopMonkey have already covered all the streets. Donking turn it just blehh bad given the action - we're really not considering villain's range at all.
