25NL video

I get a kick out of doing this videos. I hadn't done a micro stakes one in some time so I put together a 25NL video the other day. I had some minor technical difficulties in it, but I felt like there was some good content in there that I didn't want to pass up. So, if technical difficulties are bothersome to you and you are going to complain about them... don't watch (they aren't THAT bad ).

For the length of it I thought you hit some really nice spots to discuss, will need to watch a couple more times with pen & paper in hand before I jump in though.

Cracking video, please to be making more

Nasty flop for your KK btw

I always use VLC to play videofiles, I've never had a video file it couldn't play, you can download it here:

That's a great little video... even though I'm not playing 25NL yet, I learned a lot from it. Thanks for making it.

Re: 25NL video

I know it's old, but jeeez, I need to open up a lot I guess. Struggling on 25NL on Stars now (bit over break even). 12/8. Too much card dependant.

I loved your style here. The problem is my hand reading is horrible comparing to yours, so I probably would end up in really tough spots. I guess I have to take it step by step.

I still would call this min c/r with KK, waiting for maybe a check from him or getting Ace on river, or 9 (less, cause he might have AK). But that's probably bad play :-)

One question, raise sizes. I've just finished reading Professional No Limit Holdem and read the discusions on SPR, and especialy PFR size to get target SPR. I noticed you're always looking at SPR after the flop, but do you adjust PFR to get it where you want it, or just take what you get? I guess the former. As far as raising limpers goes you used standards, but when opening in LP, mainly to steal, you used different sizes. What was the reasoning, if I might ask?

This might be even my first post, can't remember if I posted. If so...

Hi! Great forum... Big thanks to all posters from habitual lurker :-)

Hi! Great forum... Big thanks to all posters from habitual lurker :-)
In regards to using raise sizes to hit target SPRs... I do sometimes. The best way to explain it is that I have a range of raise sizes I will use in certain situations and I will sometimes pick my raise size such that it will get the SPR close to my target. Often with 100bb stacks I can't really get it very close so I choose my raise size based on my range... my plan... etc. It's actually a pretty extensive discussion. To give an example of when I may adjust a size to hit an SPR.

Say a 40% vpip-ish player limps in EP with 80bb. I hold AKo OTB. My target SPR against a player like this would be like 6. So a raise to 5bb(the "standeard 4bb+1bb per limper) sets me up with an SPR of about 7.5. Now if I raise to 6bb I end up with an SPR of a shade over 6. Perfect. Now... say he only has 50bb. I go the other way I don't want to make "too" big of a raise because it degrades my postflop value(if I raise to 5bb I get an SPR of 4 which is smaller than my most profitable SPR). I will often just raise to 4bb here. This sets up an SPR of a little under 6. Perfect. Of course, this is with AK... against a player like this I may make a different raise size with a different hand. However, since it is very stack size/villain/hand dependent(and sometimes other considerations take precedence over my target SPR) it would be very hard to get a hold of what I'm doing.

If we are 100bb deep it is much more dependent on how my opponent actually plays because I'm not going to reach my target SPR unless I raise to 7 or 8bb and I feel that starts getting it to the point where he will not call with as many hands.

Thank you for taking time to answer my questions. I'll think about it while sitting at the tables. I also noticed how videos could add to my learning process :-)

Re: 25NL video

With your image on the KK hand being a little wild up to the point, do you think there's no value at all calling a min raise turn? I feel our hand is a little under-repped because we checked the flop, and the turn bet on our pot really looks like a stab with air. I feel the min-raise is a disguise to either take a cheap bluff at you or trying to induce you to raise. Since we'll most likely not be raising or betting anything afterthat point in the hand, I think there might be value in calling that tiny bet and hope that he will check the river to you for a free showdown. If they bump river too then it's most likely not a bluff and we can fold there?
