Re: 25NL folding a set on the flop

As played, you MUST call! You have put in waaaaaay too much of your stack to fold. Villain is on the button, so his range is wide here. Folding is just insane.

Just because he is on the button doesn't mean he is wide here. He isn't 4-bet shoving a wide range on the flop just because he's on the button. V is definitely strong here.

You have a set! Villain won't always have a higher set as you seem to fear. There is no way you can put in nearly half your stack with a set and then fold! That is just ultra weak tight and burning money.

I never said he always has a set, but I think I'm behind his 4-bet shipping range.

You're not taking into account that the V is not the PFR, that means we discount overpairs heavily compared to if he was the PFR.

Pretty close, but prolly a fold vs this villain. All boils down to whether he plays NFDs in this manner. I fold, because I don't want to find out.

P.S. snap call in 6-max

Gutshot draws, flush draws? Sounds like you feel folding after putting in nearly half your stack was a strong move. In that case, well played.

hahah How often do you think he is 4-bet shipping a gut shot? Again, you're not thinking about a range, you're thinking on level 1 (ZOMG I HAS A SET?). V is definitely at least a level 2 thinker. We both know each other is strong (repping a strong hand). If we had middle set then yeah it is a snap call. But having bottom set makes our hand a lot weaker, and makes it a lot tougher.

Against his 4-bet shipping range, it is probably a fold.

Excellent hand, sir. Fold everything at any point in the hand unless it's the absolute stone cold nuts.

Re: 25NL folding a set on the flop

THis is the first time I've ever contemplated folding a set online, the only other time I folded a set was when I had JJ on a AKJ flop, when I got 3-bet preflop, and I got 4-bet shoved for 200BB on the flop. I was right then.

You have no clue what MUBS is. 4-bet shipping ranges are going to be very tight here. Seems that most people think that this is a fold.

Re: 25NL folding a set on the flop

It would help to remind people that generally 55, 44, 33 and 22 are -EV starting hands, and possibly even 66 is too. This is because (i) they can't profitably call bets on most boards unimproved and (ii) they can make a set but only seem to get big action when the small set isn't good enough.

Calling 33 vs fish is fine.

Chaser, was MP a fish? VPIP/PFR for MP?

Um, no they're not. Chaser, pokie, and raj advocate folding. (That's 3)
Tobe, fast, papepuga, bonnet, and myself favor calling. (That's 5) MartL is on the fence depending on more stats. Even if I give you MartL, that's 4 in favor of folding and 5 in favor of calling when you wrote this comment.

Hmmm... Folding = 4 Calling = 5

44.44% of posters at this point recommend folding. Yep! You got me! ALMOST EVERYONE else is advocating folding!

Must be that "higher" level thinking you were talking about.

I'm not going to get into a flame war with you here.

All I'm saying is that you need to look at his 4-bet shipping range. If you actually thought about ranges you'd realize this is a tough spot.
