10NL: AK open v SS 3B Jam, Hero?

Villain is unknown. He is multi tabling so I'll assume he is a reg.

No history and I've only just sat so I don't have an image.

Call/fold?

What is our calling range v 3B jam from unknown SS'r?

My thoughts are we are against AK, maybe AQs, and 88+. On that basis, it is correct to fold, right?

BB: $10 (100 bb)
UTG+2: $9 (90 bb)
MP1: $3.44 (34.4 bb)
MP2: $15.32 (153.2 bb)
MP3: $4.51 (45.1 bb)
CO: $11.18 (111.8 bb)
Hero (BTN): $10 (100 bb)
SB: $4 (40 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with A K
UTG+2 folds, MP1 calls $0.10, 3 folds, Hero raises to $0.40, SB raises to $4 and is all-in, 2 folds, Hero ?

Against a 40bb stack not sure I'm folding AQs 100% of the time tbh. Def. calling AKs obviously.

*yawn* call

the trick is to just not care however it ends up.

His range is wider than what you give him because we're isolating a limp, which we're doing presumably wider than our normal opening range from this position.

Plus we're raising the button, he's giving us no credit here.

AKs is such an easy snap call here.

In a strange way, im not fussed if I loose the (likely) flip... Would prefer my AK to hold up in a 200bb pot

Anyway, TAKE A NOTE ON WHAT HE FLIPS OVER. If its something like AJo, then we will be effectivly printing money against him.

Re: 10NL: AK open v SS 3B Jam, Hero?

He showed up with AK.

I know at first it does seem like a fist pump snap call (and that is what I actually did).

But when you consider 10NL SS'rs are probably not adjusting their range and probably aren't good enough to make light shoves over clear isolation raises, then we are probably always facing a strong hand (probably not even including AJ-).

So were left against a range of AQs, AK and 88+, and although yes, were flipping against a good % of that range, we are nonetheless behind and therefore lose just over 50% of the time we make this call. So mathematically, this has to be a -EV call, unless we can give him credit for shoving a wider range, which imo, we can't.

Is this logic correct?

If your range of AQs, AK, 88+ is correct, then you should fold. I dunno if I would give him a range that tigiht. You're raising off the button after all and there is a limper (dead money practically).

You've heard of pokerstove right? Play around with it and realize that you need about 44% equity for it to be a call. Such an easy call even if you give him 88+/AQ+ (don't have stove on this computer but pretty sure it's >50% let alone 44%)

Also good chance when he gets AA (and maybe even KK) that he 3-bets way smaller to trap. Basically if that's the range he's getting all-in he's way more likely to shove 88-JJ close to 100% of the time but maybe 3b smaller with hands like AA/KK which gives us even more equity.

There was some dead money in the pot (pot was $4.65 at the time and you needed only $3.60 to call) which is why everyone's calling.
