Someone who makes $100k/year for 5 years investing 90% of it wouldn't need to work anymore in their lives.

and 100k/year is pretty conservative, I saw some guy here who had an hourly of $300 back in 2003, he 24-tabled NL1K as a 9/5.

I don't know how is the yearly % of the lowest risk investment in your countries, but with 100k/year investments, for 6 years in Brazil, you should have ~700k total + a 35k/year income(after tax and inflation), risk free.

If you want to compare it to a normal job's salary before taxes, it would be around 50k/year

Having a 50k/year earnings without doing nothing is awesome, just see how people out there bust their asses to get that salary, even you guys who play like crazy.

I made ~$68k in 2016 and paid no rent whilst my mother bought all the food, cooked, cleaned, ironed all my clothes, and even paid for my phone contract with o2

Bought her a couple Ł500 gifts for her birthday and Christmas so it probably evens out I suppose

if you have a plan, then it's better, as I said: you can leverage your money and make a lot of passive income. Your mom would be way happier if you lived with her for 6 years and had enough money/passive income to live comfortably for the rest of your life rather than dumping 12k/year with rent/internet/water/electricity + wasting a lot of money buying electronics/car/clothes you won't need.

the world is pretty wild out there, you should be grateful if you can make a good amount of money. Honor that money by saving it and being wise, not many people have that kind of opportunity. If you don't protect what you've worked to achieve, society will take from you, not by stealing, but by misleading you into thinking that you need to buy a car every 2-3 years, have a new phone every year, always using/buying new clothes that will last for 6 months.

I'm a grad student in one of the best universities of my country, in the best engineering when it comes to being able to get a good job (industrial engineering, we work in every single industry). I'll graduate this year(took more time than my colleagues), almost 1/3 of my colleagues are having trouble in finding a decent job. If the situation is like that for the elite workforce in my country, imagine for the rest.

Every dollar you save is a dollar you make. If you play poker for living, you don't need a car/new clothes/a good cell phone/expensive travels, just use your brother's/cousins' old clothes and grind it out that money. If you feel bad that you're not helping in the house, just give your parents some amount you think that will help. People say here a lot that poker is dying, yet they do very little to find new ways of getting some income outside of the poker tables, save very little. In the end, if poker dies, a lot of ex-poker players will be left in the world without education/income/savings to make a good living.

Also the food your mom makes is healthy, cheap and tastes better than what you can find in most restaurants.

aren't you in your early 20's? you should be washing your own clothes, buying your own food and cooking regardless of whether you live at home or not and she certainly shouldn't be paying your phone contract when you made $68k.

RIP SquishFish however he spelled it. Not sure if he played $100 frequently as that eludes me now but I battled a bit with him HU to start some PL $200 tables and he very rarely played NL.

Zoom and spins were and are the worst for poker The poker economy would be so much better had they never been introduced.

Also who cares if someone lives with their parents or whatever??? We are all just living on this ****ty rock floating though space trying to get by. Wish my mom would do my laundry

also it has more volume, ergonomics is awesome, you don't neet to have a huge monitor to play good volume(or those crappy softwares that stack tables)
you can focus on the decisions and gg

margins got lower for bumhunters, but it's higher for those who are focusing in perfecting their game and playing well.

Just look at NL25z now and compare to it 3 years ago(when I was playing), usually I saw 1-2 fish every 2 9-max tables, now I see at least 2 recs per 6-max table

With almost no rakeback and solvers being widely available the rake will be larger than the skill gap between players if it's mostly regs.
So lowish winrates, no rakeback, high variance will make the game not worth playing for the most part.
Also getting moved after each hand might be annoying to many.

not fair to say 30% is no rb
obviously this is a fraction of what it used to be but unfortunately there a bunch of sites out there offer little to actually zero rb, stars is still one of the better sites for rewards. I would guess poker rewards will eventually be like airline miles, if you can get 3-4c on your dollar you're crushing

Count on stars cutting rb to 888 levels in a year or two.

yeah I was assuming this in my post.
But not 1-2 years, this year.
Didn't they announce some cutting to come for this year already?

They announced some "new and exciting" rewards system, so yeah less rb. I'm assuming this wont cut our 27-28% or whatever to 888 levels, but I wouldnt be surprised to see it cut in half.

2 concepts u unfortunately dont understand: rake vs effective rake and recs vs whales. Yes, zoom has insane amounts of recs. Problem is that no matter how good u are a 30/15 w 7bb/100 lossrate will never give u alot of money.
The introduction of zoom alone most likely decreased lossrates by 100%+++ overnight. How people cannot or refuse to to this for what it is/was is stunning
