Nice summer job Cangurino!

No but seriously I'd definitely volunteer and add whatever value I can to updating these COTW's, but as Cangurino I am not sure about the quality part either.

if we get a few more volunteers, I'll start putting together a sign-up list with the ones that could most use updating.

Cang: your math is second to none in here, and I'm sure you could make some really valuable contributions in that way as a bare minimum.

I don't know if I can offer much. But I'd be willing to try and help as a volunteer.

Maybe like some of the original COTWs, I'd be doing my share of research and learning on the way.

cool, thanks for offering to help. I learned a lot while writing the ones I wrote, so I think it really is a good way to actually learn.

love to get a few more people on board here. If we get like 8 people, we can rotate them amongst ourselves and each only have an assignment only once every 2 months or whatever.

New COTWs would, of course, also be welcome, but I think systematically updating the existing ones would be a great project.

The idea being that you start with the original OP and the discussion, and write an update to address changes to the strategies in there that look out of date, or were incomplete/suboptimal or whatever when written.

But we do need a critical mass of volunteers to get started.

Is it okay if I quote your posts in the micro regs thread? Or maybe you can post something there Mpethy, I reckon this thread doesn't get as much readers as that thread and you might get more volunteers this way.

I'm in this boat too...

Whilst I think I can offer value, I'm not sure others would agree -- and I definitely don't want to be writing stuff that is wrong.

So I'll throw my name in the hat, and if I get chosen I'll be more than happy to help out.

Hi guys, a little update about my "project"

As I like reading poker theory when i am in the public transport and not a big fan of e-reader... I just like printing out.

So what I do is copy the thread, make it pretty for a nice printed version. I was thinking that might interest some of you guys. My goal is eventually to link all the thread together and make a "book" (A5 format) so that i can study my CotW everywhere.

I just leave them here:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?...0E&usp=sharing

Just let me know if you have any comments or advice (format for example).

Cheers!

PS: I saw that some of the CotW have a pdf version. If someone has already done what I am trying to do I would be of course interested. If it comes from different people with different format and it is not comprehensive I guess I will stick with my plan.
My first cut contains 15 CotW (60 pages~). I usually fill 1 or 2 a day during weekdays so it still a little bit of work but I enjoy it as I read the article while doing it. I'll keep updating every week I guess.

Cheers!

Go ahead and sign up in the sign up thread, and don't worry about the fact that you may not be crushing (IDK what your results are). Very few of the original CoTW authors were crushers at the time they wrote their C0TW (although ~everybody was a winner in their game).

OK!!! We have enough volunteers in the sign up thread to start selecting the CoTW articles we're going to start with. I'm not sure of the best way to do this. I see two potential ways to prioritize the updates:

1. Volunteers select, say, 3 topics each, which would give us enough work to have a weekly CoTW through the beginning of next year with the current roster of volunteers.

Pros: People choose the subjects they're most interested in, and it's democratic

Cons: resolving conflicts when people choose the same subject

2. I (or somebody else) generate a list of subjects most in need of updating, post it, and volunteers sign up.

Pros: Simple and fast--it'd only take an hour or so.

Cons: authoritarian, volunteers might not be interested in the topics selected.

These are just the first two systems that popped into my head, probably there are others.

Thoughts please?

There's nothing better than a benevolent dictator (or a democratorship, as we call it).

How about Matt posts a list of things he thinks need updating, and independently everybody looks for topics he's interested in?

First system seems far better than the second. It shouldn't be a chore to write update a COTW and they're generally going to be better if the person is interested/motivated in the topic.

This sounds about right. From a quick perusal of the original posts, we should have plenty of material to divvy up.

If there's something that someone is dying to update that isn't on the first list then they should suggest it.

I dont want us to get bogged down waiting for everybody to chime in on process, so let's do this:

I'll put together a list today. If anybody wants to do one that's not on the list, they can just sign up for it, and I'll work it into the schedule.

I have a coaching session starting in 10 minutes, so the list won't be up for maybe 4 hours. But I'll get it up today my time.

OP updated with schedule through November 1. We still have a serious need for authors to choose a second article and for new volunteers.

Since I've been reading these COTW my winrate has been going up. I've read many books but it seems like this is helping my game a lot more.

In all seriousness, the CotWs taken together are probably the best poker book ever written for mass publication.

I actually collected the first year CotW posts into a single whopper of a book. The plan was to distribute it only with the authors' permission, but that never happened. Some requested not to have their posts included, which was easy enough to comply. Some of the others never responded and without their consent I simply would not release the collection.

Then life intervened.

To this day, and to my knowledge, the collection has not been seen by people outside the first year CotW authors. An updated edition dealing with everything that's happened in the poker world since then would probably be quite an... interesting read.

Sigh. Looks like we have already had our first missed CotW. Anybody want to sign up for it so I can add it back to the schedule further down?
