C-Betting marginal hands? C-Betting marginal hands?

I'm always unsure on what to do when I raise pre-flop and the flop gives me something like second pair. Isn't a c-bet in these situations a poor play since we get better hands to call and worse hands to fold? What should we have in consideration when we face these situations?

It depends on a lot of factors:
  • Number of players
  • Board Texture
  • Your position
  • Pre-flop action
  • Villain's perceived range
  • Villain's calling range

One of the early concept of the weeks was written on this topic

Flopping 2nd pair is pretty decent to cbet.
Almost everyone know what a cbet is, so they will call if they hit anything at all, including bottom pair.
Getting worse hands to fold isn't always horrible, if those hands have some decent equity against your hand. If you stop villain from drawing out on you by the river, that's still worth something.

Also, not cbetting when you hit is insane, since anyone paying attention will know you're only cbetting a really good hand or a completely bluff.
Making it a lot easier to call your cbets.
