One of the smokers said that if I smoked one more cigarette they wouldn't count it as a breach since they were curious about what would happen. Well, that "one" cigarette was soooo good I just paid them and joined the club, so to speak. I now smoke more than any of them, more than a pack each day.
I enjoy smoking so it was sort of worth it, but I hate the fact that I was wrong about how easy it is to quit. Even with the smoker's cough and all, I can't quit and now totally understand their dilemma. You'll understand it too if you try it. That bet was 10 years ago.

^^ this. I smoked a pack a day for two years and quit cold turkey no problem. Then I was deployed overseas with the military, started smoking again, basically a pack a day for about 8 months. When I got back to the states, again I quit cold turkey.
I would take this bet a hundred times over.

Re: Prop bet: Take up smoking a pack a day for 30 days, and QUIT
The cigarette is one of the most insidious and evil inventions in the history of Mankind. 14 years ago I quite literally watched my own mother die from cancer caused by smoking, yet I'm about to go out on my front porch and puff another one down. I've quit cold turkey 7 times over the past 28 years, working on my 8th try now. Not going well at all. Each time it gets exponentially more difficult. I'd almost rather self-amputate a toe than detox from nicotine again. Everyone's body chemistry is different, and until the nicotine hits your system, you have no way of knowing what your body will think of it. Mine often deems it more important than food.
Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't take that bet at any price.

Re: Prop bet: Take up smoking a pack a day for 30 days, and QUIT
if you get to build up to a pack then smoke a pack for a month and then quit cold turkey for at least 2 months it's reasonable bet... but if you can't ever smoke even 1 cig after that, or if you have to start "cold turkey" with a pack a day, it's almost impossible.

reverse implied pot odds say: don't take the bet. potential -EV for your health far outweighs almost all potential $ won. Maybe unless you were looking at a HUGE number, which is relative, but a couple g's certainly isn't enough to take that big of a risk. Think of the worst case scenario vs what you stand to win....

Lies. I used to be a very big smoker, far more than a pack a day for several years. I had tons of trouble quitting, but have been successfully quit for a year now (with some relapses when drunk etc). It sucks, and the hunger-analogy is very accurate, but in no way is it 100 times worse than being hungry. If tobacco simply ceased to exist, I doubt that many smokers would suffer that much agony over it.

Re: Prop bet: Take up smoking a pack a day for 30 days, and QUIT
I've been a smoker for 7 years now, I quite once for a month and I came back.. I've been trying to quite a few times and never succeeded, I think its cuz i don't really wana quite (deep inside), I wana quite eventually tho..
Anywayz man, Don't take the bet. Am not saying its impossible cuz it isnt but It won't be easy either and you may quite or may not.. So its not worth it..
Take the advice from smokers, its not going to be easy and it may turn you into a smoker for years (also you will hurt ur body)

Show me you have a consitent heroin dealer after the 30 days have ended and I'll take you up. You have no idea of the physical addiction heroin induces.

Re: Prop bet: Take up smoking a pack a day for 30 days, and QUIT
I would think this challenge is a complete cake walk. I wouldn't lay $800 to do it just because I think cigs are gross, but if I put up a few thousand getting 3:1, I would not only take the challenge, but I would rebate whoever took the action if I ever took a hit of a cig again in my life.

Re: Prop bet: Take up smoking a pack a day for 30 days, and QUIT
I smoked for 7yrs, prob 20 a day for last 5, sometimes more sometimes less. I quit over a weekend and once 3/4 days had gone found it real easy, you get the urge when you always have one, like morning or after food but get past that and is great. All about will power ya don't need know special crap from chemist to help. gl to anyone who may try.

Lol at smoking.
like 10 years ago it was cool.
Now it is like this total faux pas where everyone loooks down on you.
The secret is out..... its bad for you and kills your lungs/causes cancer.
Who would have thought all that smoke was bad for a person?
