proximity flying is one of the sickest, most amazing things possible for a human to perform.

life goal imo

I really, really, really want to do this. But

The United States Parachute Association (USPA) requires in the Skydivers Information Manual that any jumper flying a wingsuit for the first time have a minimum of 200 freefall skydives, made within the past 18 months, and receive one-on-one instruction from an experienced wing suit jumper, or 500 jumps experience to go without an instructor.

Skydiving is expensive, 200 jumps * $200 =$40,000. Anyone know if they offer discounts to regulars? Like a "season pass" kinda dealio?

Wingsuit and a plane ticket to wherever those guys are jumping from is a lot less expensive, and imagine the extra rush of just jumping with no experience.

You can get your license by going to "skydiving school" doing which is usually a 10 jump+ program plus classes from your local skydiving place. These cost anywhere from $2,000-3,000. I'm not a skydiver but I researched it in the past because I was really into it after doing a jump in New Zealand.

After you have your license and have jumped solo, you can do jumps for like $20 bucks. That is, if you have your own equipment. Parachutes aren't cheap and neither is the rest of the gear but you can rent that stuff at the drop sites.

Pretty sure they don't have officials at the top of every mountain checking for credentials. I could be wrong though.

Well, I figured you can't even buy a wingsuit until you have enough jumps. I could be wrong though, too.

If all goes well I am going to try very hard to start accumulating jumps starting next summer. Hopefully life doesn't get in the way.

I'd be more concerned about the ground getting in the way.

At a nearby skydiving place, it costs about 3k to get your USPA A license (aka you can jump alone). The license requires 25 jumps and you demonstrating for instructors a variety of abilities. The first 10 jumps are 200+ per, the next ten are 85 per, and after that each jump is solo and 23 bucks. So you're looking at about 7000 to get licensed and do 200 total skydives. That's with your own equipment for the solo jumps, which i've heard isn't cheap.

A British guy just made the first ever landing without a chute using a wingsuit.

Landing in a field of 18,000 cardboard boxes certainly counts as an asterisk right?
