The actual size of the universe....including whether or not it is finite(and has an end to it or wraps around on itself like the pacman tunnel)....is an open question in cosmology. What is not an open question and what has been definitively answered is the size of the area of the universe which the laws of physics allow us to observe. Because the speed of light is some finite value there is only so much of the universe we can possibly see. This area is called the total observable universe and it is what the authors of that program used as the large end of their scale. It actually has no bearing on the actual size of the universe(which is unknown and will likely always be unknown to us).

Re: Scale of the Universe

I was thinking this was just going to be another one of those random pictures I've seen a thousand times before that shows how big the earth is in relation to the sun and then the sun in relation to Betelgeuse.

But this was amazingly well done.

Re: Scale of the Universe

The universe is unknowable, but we can contemplate it and know bits.
God is also unknowable, but we can Contemplate him/her/it and know bits.
Eureka! God is the Universe and the Universe is God!
No more theists question will be needed, thank you very much!
