That was mentioned in the articles, as well as by a previous poster.

Re: Olympic boxing match fixed

That's crazy.

What would have happened if the guy got knocked out and taken away on a stretcher? Seems like they would have raised his hand from the gurney as the victor. Sounds like a good skit.

a. oil and natural gas, the country itself is not poor at all.

b. being very corrupted and not free society, someone is most likely trying to boost national spirit; probably politics.

From BBC

Quote:
They say that the government minister, Mr Heydarov, introduced a private Azerbaijani investor to WSB and that the minister and his assistant acted as the interface between the two since the investor did not speak good English.
...
To date the anonymous investor has contributed $9m to WSB America.

Sporting events promoter Barry Hearn was asked to look at the economics of WSB when it was first mooted in 2009 and came to the conclusion that it could not make money.

He told Newsnight he was surprised that any investor would think that it offered the opportunity for high returns:

"If an investor comes into this scheme with $10m I can only think he's arrived from another planet".
So awesome... an anonymous investor that doesn't speak English uses the minister to broker a deal with an organization the investor must know nothing about.

BTW... the final round score was judged as a draw at 10-10.

This actually technically could be true because Olympic boxing does not use the widely accepted form of boxing scoring and instead has elected to just score one point per landed punch.

So essentially a light jab is scored the same as a knockdown which is such an lol of an oversight that I almost cannot believe it is real.
