Re: Oatmeal vs FunnyJunk

I sent this comment to the lawyer in question:

Frivolous lawsuits like what you re doing against The Oatmeal is what makes people hate lawyers. You're scum. Have a nice day!

The lawyer immediately responded wit this email:

Dominic,

Thanks for contacting me. I do not take your comments to heart, but I suggest you examine your own. I doubt you have spent more than a few minutes judging my personal worth. I would not judge you so hastily. However, I suggest you forward your email to your mother and tell you that you are harassing a man whose mother has been charicatured as engaing in bestiality. I trust she will wash your mouth out with soap and tell you to keep better company.

Regards,
Charles

I then responded in kind:

Charles,

Thank you for the prompt response, even though you did not address the frivolous lawsuit - the whole reason I contacted you in the first place. As per your suggestion, I have forwarded our correspondence and the particulars of your lawsuit against The Oatmeal, as well as the scummy practices of your client, Funnyjunk, to my mother. I will let you know what she thinks about it and whether or not she wants to wash my mouth out with soap.
However, as I know my mother well, I am going to assume that she will be able to easily distinguish between an obvious joke and silly jab at your lawsuit, and the lawsuit itself, which is repellent and an obvious shakedown by a shiester. (I'm not sure if that's the proper spelling - but as I assume you have been called the term before, you know what it is I'm saying)

I hope tis email finds you in good spirits and happy health.

Sincerely,

Dominic

PS: Sexy shirtless pics, Dude.

Re: Oatmeal vs FunnyJunk

Another reply - and he actually sent me a PDF of his book!

Dear Dominic,

FunnyJunk has not filed a lawsuit, so your basic assumption is entirely incorrect. Please inform your mom of the true facts. In twenty-six years of representing primarily small businesses, I have never knowingly filed a frivolous lawsuit. Of course, I've lost some cases here and there, and usually my legal adversaries have turned into respected colleagues. There is a philosophy of conflict management that does not escalate into incivility or indiscriminate disparagement of one's foes. I trust that you will learn of it, and benefit the world by practicing it.

Please find attached a free copy of my book The Sex.Com Chronicles, and enjoy it in good health. In the Foreword, I state my philosophy of using the law to prevent violence in the world.

With warm regards,
Charles

My reply:

Charles,

Thanks for the book! I will read it and give you my thoughts. Maybe post an Amazon review.

You're right - it is not a lawsuit, merely a shakedown. My bad.

Dominic

Actually, I believe the slur "shyster" is generally reserved for Jewish attorneys. I believe the proper slur for someone like Charles would be, "eggplant".
