I actually thought this was a joke from the Onion or somewhere but it's actually not. These are the real debate champions from a particular intercollegiate debate at Indiana University.

I don't understand how this debate works and it looks awful from the video, but the amount of hate and racism in the comments goes beyond anything I have read in Youtube before.

So basically yeah, college debates have become poetry slams now. And insisting that the contestants stay on topic or make logical arguments would be racist. Lol academia.

Top youtube search result for "college debate" led me to this. Haven't watched the whole thing yet but it starts with an "adult language" warning (viewer discretion "advized") and then a guy trying to talk ridiculously fast and weirdly gasping for air every few seconds. This is clearly going to be awesome so I'll post it right now then watch the rest.

I mean, that's obv a super racist article, but it's point is clear enough: the body that moderates and scores debates has recently changed their rules. How about that.

The establishment got angled by black power.

Just cuz mostly white people play the game, doesn't mean it is biased against others.

Golf, for example, may be cost prohibitive, debate not so much past travel costs.

I'm hip hop for life, and think young Einstein may be spittn in the "cypher", but cmon, really selling yourself short to bring the cypher to debate.

Scammer here really. Hope they are proud.

Maybe the CEDA or whatever are correct to examine the bias of their protocol, but to hand out national championships uh uh because some def poetry shows up is scrawny.

I don't know how anyone could watch this (both the black and the white debaters) and think this is anything like what they expect debate to be. I can't imagine any serious student watching this and thinking "yea, this is awesome I'd love to do this". Sure, it's a joke that apparently now you don't even have to address the topic (seriously!?) but it seems like debate was a joke anyway long before these changes.

A documentary revolving around this new debate style came out a few years ago. It's totally bizarre.

IIRC, it wasn't even as crazy back when this was made as it looks like it is now. The debaters still stayed on point - they just tried to cram in as much information as possible.
