I heard his trial was starting a week or two ago but that was it. Either I am missing it or the media is intentionally not paying attention to him.

Its the preliminary inquiry (enquete preliminaire in french, I'm not sure about the english term) that started recently. There is a publication ban on most of it which I think is why the media coverage is minimal.
