I think I'll be able to post a link to a live stream when it airs. The stream may even have some very basic subbing.

Here's a subbed preview of the upcoming batsu game. It's a news show and press conference with the cast.

News and Press Conference

The show will be six hours in Japan, airing at 6:30pm on New Year's Eve.

In the U.S., that will be a starting time of 1:30 am PST and 4:30am EST for those who want to watch a live stream of the show. (someone check my timezone work, please )

6 hour TV program. All on one night. Holy cow. Do they have TV ratings in Japan like we do here? Is this a highly rated program?

I know that a music show called Kohaku Uta Gassen (Kohaku, for short) is one of the most watched TV shows in Japan every year. It airs on New Year's Eve, so the 24-hour batsu game would be competing against it. Matsumoto actually jokes about Kohaku when he says "But the 'New Year's Even Singing Contest' didn't make me an offer..." 0:17 into the news/press conference video.

New Year's Eve in Japan is more of a stay-at-home holiday than a go-out-and-party night like in the U.S. So, a lot of the networks do special programming that night.

No Laughing Spies airs in Japan in a little over 24 hours.

Shibatabread has put together a whole team for subbing this year's batsu game.

Quote:
ShibataBread: One of the leader in subbing. Having a long history in subbing together with his wife, he his veteran in the world of delivering translations. Shibata will have a leading role in this project. His translation and subbing skills will be a real driving force in this project.

Mrs. ShibataBread: As mentioned above, she is the wife of Shibata himself. She is like a wife should be and helps him with the translations all around (This doesn't mean he has to ask her nicely ). She will be a final editor in this project and putting everyone's work together.

Zurui: The new man in town! This guy has put his stemple on subbing in a really short time. He is delevering one sub after another and has a really great blog where everyone can find his work. Zurui will focus on both Translating and Type-setting.

Dere-kun: Also a new man in town, though most people will not know him very well. He is an exchange student who self-thought himself the art of the Japanese language. Though he hasn't got a big history of subbing, his self-earned skills and motivation are enough to welcome him as a full fledged member of our team!

Alex: He will be focusing on Type-setting and coloring in this project.
If you want to watch it live, there almost certainly will be a stream on Justin.tv.

Basic (and probably crude) live subbing will be available at a Gaki chat room here.

The best place to get information just before and during the live broadcast (such as new links) is in this thread.

Wow, they're actually going to try and livesub. I'll be watching it live anyway, and I'm making it a drinking game with a bunch of Sailors and Japanese people. One drink per batsu.

Seems like a perfectly safe drinking game.

This is the live chat with possible (and almost certainly crude and sporadic) translations.

Well, I got so drunk before the batsu game that I only saw a few minutes of it before passing out. Oh well. Sendai is a very cool city. Japan has more hot girls per capita than any place I've ever been to.

Awesome. It looks like they are going to have a "don't get caught" aspect of the game at some time. The 24 hr tag game was my intro to Gaki and still a favorite of mine, so I look forward to that.

This may be the only show where opening desk drawers is both dangerous and hilarious.

I figure at some point the batsu games will grow old, but every year I'm laughing my head off. The desk drawer game always gets me going. The Hamada action figure killed me.

One of the most famous songs in Japan is Ashita Ga Arusa (There's Always Tomorrow).

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
The song tells the story about a boy that everyday meets a girl at a train station but he is to afraid to confess his love to her, the song is written in a comical sense. When the song was released in Japan 1963, it sold over 8 million records.

Here's a performance of the song by Hamada, Matsumoto, Endo, Tanaka, and many other famous Japanese comedienes.

Ashita Ga Arusa- English subbed (song)

In 2001, Hamada Masatoshi starred in an 11 episode Japanese TV series loosely based on the song. It has both drama and comedy elements to it.

The first episode has been subbed as part of an ongoing project.
