Welp, Unknown is what I have (last weeks humble bundle). Not sure if I'll really enjoy a turn based game, but we'll see.

"Turn-based" is one thing, but the pacing of XCOM is what caused me to ragequit the first time I tried to play. I played too fast and loose in an attempt to speed things up, and I walked into an alien meatgrinder and got my entire squad killed 10 hours in. On Ironman, you cannot reload.

The game is downright tedious at higher difficulties, which is why I never bothered with a second playthrough on Classic or Impossible after beating the game on Normal.

Inching forward and setting up constant overwatch was not my cup of tea. Maybe Long War improved that, I dunno.

This is one of the great changes in xcom2. Since you start each mission in concealment, you are now the aggressor, and inching forward is actually detrimental (especially since a number of missions now have turn limits to complete an objective.)

If this was the biggest gripe you had with xcom, xcom2 looks like it will be perfect for you.

I read that, hopefully they manage to make it fun because the missions in EU where you had time/turn limits were painful.

I enjoyed the missions with turn limits the most. Otherwise I can just creep forward and take every corner safe. Also often turn limits can hide the flaws in AI and somewhat stop abusing it so badly.

I think retreat should be an actual strategic option.

so for xcom 2 is everyone going to take a learning run on normal or is everyone starting straight away on classic?

Yeah, start with Enemy Within normal. As I think one of the XCOM developers said, "Enemy within is a great 40 hour tutorial for The Long War"

Somehow I missed the first game so this a whole new experience for me. Loving everything so far except the constant 15 seconds of just staring at a character for no reason.

Probably playing on normal for a few hours until I can get a better hang on the mechanics and then I'll restart higher. Right now I feel s little like Zapp Brannagin fighting a rampaging horde of Killbots.

Got really stoned this morning and created a bunch of fighters who look like people I know so I can send them to their deaths.

I can't believe more people aren't talking it.
