The game is downright tedious at higher difficulties, which is why I never bothered with a second playthrough on Classic or Impossible after beating the game on Normal.
Inching forward and setting up constant overwatch was not my cup of tea. Maybe Long War improved that, I dunno.
This is one of the great changes in xcom2. Since you start each mission in concealment, you are now the aggressor, and inching forward is actually detrimental (especially since a number of missions now have turn limits to complete an objective.)
If this was the biggest gripe you had with xcom, xcom2 looks like it will be perfect for you.
