the nice thing about EVE as opposed to most MMOs is you don't have to play to keep progressing

I'm going to have a ton of new skills whenever I get back

I was asked to come back and fill a ranged DPS spot for my guild. I don't really have time to WoW these days, but everyone knows the itch never truly goes away, so I told them I'd make an effort.

98% of my time in Legion was spent on my Monk, though I did have a 110 mage that sat unused. That mage was my main in WoD.

I spent 350k and a lot of time on Sunday, and around another 10 hours this week, and that mage is now more progressed in both item level and artifact power than my monk was. Blizzard does not **** around on these catchup mechanics.

However, because I spent that 350k on BoEs for the mage, I am now under 10 million liquid gold and may as well be completely bankrupt. RIP 8th digit. =/

Tonight I will join in on the guild carry raid and hopefully mooch some free gear, while embarassing myself on the DPS meters since my gear is pitifully optimized and I've literally never raided as Frost.

Flying was released, and I don't have it. It's going to take another week of grinding the rep to get me off the ground. I'm still pretty far behind the rest of the raid team in ilevel and artifact power. The real question is whether or not I'll be able to stand the voice chat during raids. I mute early and often in Dota2, and nothing else I play these days has voice chat. I've gotten old and irritable when it comes to teenage and early 20s humor. The pace of my transition to GET OFF MY LAWN old man yelling at clouds has been accelerating at a blinding pace.

I should get back into golf instead.

Did you set your queue for like a year? I remember a time when you couldn't do that. It's much better now.

Unfortunately I stopped paying for my two accounts so I'm not progressing at all atm :/. Still on my main I can fly every subcap I care about so it's all good.

yeah, I set a queue for about a year with only per/will

if I'm still not playing by the time that finishes, I can easily remap and set up another year or so of int/mem

Frost is the ****. I enjoy it very much.

Do yourself a favor and just take Incanter's Flow though and keep track of it and optimize things that way. Every time I open my talent tree I cry a little bit inside that Rune of Power still exists.

My account says it's locked on the bnet app.

I can probably get it unlocked, but I have no clue what CC i used back in the day. Any way to get around it? Haven't played since WotLK.

Is it worth trying to casually play it, if I don't buy whatever the new expansions are out with it?

It gives me the option to buy "WoW" for $20, says I can level to 100, and it says my locked account has Warlords of Draenor.

And then I can buy Legions for $50 or $70.

So I assume if I have Warlords, they just upgraded me for free then?
Because I know I never bought pandaria or warlords or anything after WotLK

You don't need to buy every expansion anymore. It's basically split into base game & latest expansion.

If you can recover your Wrath-era account then you have every expansion up to WoD and only need to buy Legion.

When they release a new expansion the older ones get added to the base game.

So just plain WoW includes the base game, Burning Crusade, WotLK, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, and Warlords of Draenor. The only expansion you would need to buy to be up to date is the latest, Legion.

if you want to start a new character, you can level up to 20 before you even need an active subscription

I can confirm, I did this a few months ago back when Blizzard was offering a Hearthstone card back for leveling a WoW character to 20. I chose druid because I'd always wanted to try that class and never had, it was pretty fun. Unfortunately my HS account is tied to a different bnet account than my old WoW account, so if I want to keep playing Druid with the xpacs I'll have to start over on my "old" account. Getting to 20 is a breeze though, I did it in a couple of nights on a penniless character with straight quest/drop/merchant gear.

The chief complaint I had was that it felt like I was on rails much of the time, the open-world feel I remember from the old days just wasn't there. Also I am probably in the minority on this but I think it's now TOO easy to level up. Part of the allure of MMOs for me is the process of "getting there." Non-raiding non-PVP content has been dumbed down to pure facerolling. I didn't die a single time leveling from 1-20, which was simply unheard of back in the day.

Also there's just a massive amount of content now and unless there is a way to turn off XP gain (there wasn't last time I played, at least not that I can recall) you're going to miss out on more than half of it just playing normally and following quest chains. Though I guess that's a positive if you are someone who likes to play lots of alts, as you can do different quest lines and experience more content with different characters.

you can turn off xp gains and have been able to for a very long time

see Besten and Slahtz or similar, NPCs in SW or ORG that'll let you turn off xp

EXP gains? The rested xp stuff?

IMO, MMO's haven't really been about the leveling or progression of exp, but raiding and doing hard content with little things as possible.

There obviously has to be an element to the leveling/grinding for stuff, but I feel the end game is more rewarding than leveling.

It's personal preference. Some like to experience all the leveling content, others play the game to get to end game as fast as possible and enjoy that more. I like to do both, and I was a member of a "raiding" guild back in the day, but no raiding guild would want me now as my play time would just be too sporadic for them to be able to count on me...so I wind up soloing a LOT with a few pickup instances thrown in here and there. If that's my MMO experience then I want to do as much that the game has to offer that I can in my limited availability.

I joined in on the raid group this week and thoroughly embarrassed myself on the damage meters. 7 out of the 10 bosses down on Mythic.

Progression raiding is fun, but I don't think I'll be as excited about it when you just show up to do the weekly clear.

I was fed some garbage gear and a couple tier tokens, so my item level is surprisingly high considering what it was 10 days ago.

just discovered this addon which also requires this install. Turns WoW into a console game, basically, with very little setup required, sort of. You have to pick what your gamepad does which can take a little bit, but once it's set up it seems like it'll be a blast.

They have TONS of support for things like menus and whatnot in-game, like the cursor auto-moves to menu screens that open and displays the button to press which will do some action. You can easily move the mouse cursor around with the right thumbstick, or for more precision you can use the d-pad to hop around available clickable areas. Ingenious stuff.

That is pretty neat. The game does seem like it'd be more enjoyable from a sofa.

The virtual keyboard implementation is neat, how much this one add on modifies not just the controls but also various menus is massively impressive. I'm not sure I've never seen such a professional mod before, and I'm likely going to be donating them $10-$20 just based of playing around with it for an hour last night. I've never been so impressed with a mod before.

Note: this might screw up your key bindings if you try it out and decide you're not a fan, so snap a screenshot first.
