I'm still curious which console will offer the best Zelda experience. Not entirely clear at this point.

Yeah, it sucks when you don't play for a couple days, and "Oh ****, dead battery again." To always be charging it can't be a good thing...

This is easily in my top 5 games for the console. My girlfriend gets annoyed how much praise I heap upon it every time it gets popped in. Great soundtrack, great graphics, gameplay, scaling challenge, fluid mechanics, variability.

Get this one if you don't have it!

Pretty sure it's already in the classics for half price

I'm gonna be working through all the Super Mario and Zelda games. I've played most of the 3d ones, but i haven't touched the vast majority of the rest (except the original Zelda, man that was hard!)

Anyway, i'm looking forward to this. I'm currently playing the original Super Mario Bros. It's pretty damn old school but i'm enjoying it.

Anyways, i would eventually like to play Super Mario Sunshine but it isn't on the VC. What would be the easiest way to play it?

Sunshine was only released on the Cube so to play it legally you're going to have to buy the disc and play it on a GC or Wii. Cube game prices are always going up though.

There's other ways of course. Dolphin on a PC or soft modding a Wii to do GC USB loading but you're on your own with that since we can't talk about it on 2p2. If you have a softmodded Wii though it would make what you're doing so much easier. When it's modded the Wii is the best console of all time.

Not a big deal if you haven't played it previously - easily the weakest of the 3D Marios. Just skip from Mario 64 to the 2 galaxy games

Sunshine is probably the only Mario game I've never replayed. It's been what, 15 years now? That being said, it isn't terrible, but it's Mario Splatoon basically.

I replayed it in the last few years, since I hadn't 100% it when I had it as a kid.

It is the most difficult game of the 4. It is so much smoother than 64, I really enjoyed playing it again. There are a handful of stars that are super frustrating due to controls, and you'll know which one they are quickly.

Sunshine is infinitely better than 64

Never understood why Sunshine wasn't received as well. It was really good at the time and has held up very well.

Sunshine is great. I imagine the people hating are the same people that hate on WW, they don't like change and don't want to let the N64 go.

^I'm playin' Wind Waker now! I was a bit worried about it looking too "cartoony" but i can already tell that this is a fkn fantastic Zelda!

Yeh so i finished all the 3D Marios except for Sunshine. I really wanna play it, but don't wanna buy a gamecube controller and hook it up to my original Wii. I hope it comes to VC.

When they first showed WW people lost their **** hating on it for the graphics, now it's considered one of the best looking art styles ever and holds up better than anything released around the time. I was shocked the first time I saw it and couldn't understand why people hated it so much.

Some earlier screenshots were released with a completely different art style. Then at the big E3? reveal it was like "lol surprize bitches cartoon Link!!!"

To be fair, criticism of WW these days (at least as I understand it) isn't about the graphics. It's a nintendo console; folks' expectations for graphics aren't the same as for other consoles. I've played WW 4+ times so I'm obviously not a hater, but these are my main complaints (spoiler tag since pete's playing it right now)

Spoiler:

(1) Too much sailing (which they wisely addressed in the HD version)

(2) That stupid fetch the triforce pieces quest (which, again, was modified in the HD version - yay for admitting your mistakes). It's especially bad that this fetch-quest is so close to the endgame, because it kills the pacing and momentum of what should be a tense buildup to the final area.

(3) Only 5 main dungeons (which they addressed in subsequent games - TP had 9 dungeons). I guess six if you count forsaken fortress as one. While MM only had 4, 6 is still a let-down from OOT's 8 (not counting the well + ice cavern) and LTTP's 12.

My main complaint about WW isn't any of those. It is the lack of needing to do any inventory management. You get whatever the hell you need from the first bush/enemy you fight for whatever slot isn't maxed out at the time. Same with rupees, outside of buying maps I think, the rupees are never useful for anything.

Yeh PI thanks for hiding the spoilers but i read them. Not really spoils to me. I was wondering about the sailing. Even on this HD version it still takes a long time to sail from one end to the other. And i'm presuming there is no fast travel?

Also, i am kinda shocked by there being only 5 main dungeons. I'm towards the end of the 2nd one.

But still, i'm loving the game. Zelda music is always awesome and the gameplay is great as well.

Same, except I wouldn't bother playing it again.

I played it years after it came out, no nostalgia or graphical disappointment was interfering with my judgment. I did like it for a while, but your 2 and 3 kill it.

It's almost like the people saying Sunshine > 64 and WW > 64 are a little bit younger and had GameCubes during their formative years.

I don't think you can assume that. I was an early teenager when the 64 came out and prefer SM64 but think whether or not it's "better" is subjective because Sunshine is definitely a tighter game in almost every way. WW is kind of a different case and I agree with the complaints above but I would still go back and play it over OOT. OOT has much more impressive game design but I just love everything about the "feel" of WW. It's kind of like how people praise Bioshock Infinite despite it being incredibly shallow. If it does hook you, it's easy to get lost.
