Yeah, as someone who hasn't owned a non-nintendo system in his life (CPU doesn't count), I'm pretty happy ATM that I haven't purchased the Wii U.

Then again, the 40 game backlog that I have is part of that reason.

Need to come out with like 3 or 4 killer games. It sounds like they are coming, like HD Zelda Windwaker Remix, new 3D Mario, ect but we don't know any details or when.

I am glad as well I haven't bought it...will probably just wait for the PS4 and "Deep Down" which looks amazing from a graphics perspective assuming the trailer footage will be actual game footage of the fight you get to see in the clip.

What's the last time there was a console release from a major player that was this lackluster? Sega?

all of them.

Yeah I think people are forgetting how lackluster the first year of a console has been in the past. Cube had a much worse launch, a not so great lifestyle and they still made a profit from it. Saying the Wii U is doomed 5 months into its life is a little premature in my opinion.

Yeah so much this. If you want a bunch of games available to choose from then don't buy a console at launch. 3D Mario and Mario Kart will be apparently be playable at E3 and should be out by the end of the year, with Zelda due sometime in 2014. Once those and the other big names are out I'm sure sales will pick up and they'll be fine.

Having said that, I'm not sure if I'd recommend getting one ahead of the PS4 for the average gamer. I personally would because I can't get enough of Mario/Zelda, but I'll more than likely end up owning both.

I wouldn't recommend a Wii U to someone or plays a lot of games but can only afford to buy one system. To them I'd recommend a PS4 or a PC. PS4 is looking really nice and Sony have a bunch of great exclusives/studios to back them up as well as big 3rd party support. Basically you're going to have a lot more options with a PS4. If the rumors about MS are true I wouldn't even bother with it. I'll be grabbing all consoles because I'm a whore but thats beside the point.

Once those big Nintendo first party games come out and they bundle them with consoles I'm sure you're going to see sales pick up. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and the rest sell units and I doubt that's going to change anytime soon. It will never reach the heights the Wii did but it's not going to be a failure. I still think it's going to be the same old story with 1st party titles dominating and 3rd parties being an after thought.

WiiU launch line up looks way stronger then the Wii's did. Link

Being a bit of a Nintendo fan boy I want to see them succeed but I'm a little fearful that with every new console they are producing less first party exclusives.

They need a good selection of exclusive AAA titles if they're going to compete against two more powerful machines.

The Wii had way more first party exclusives than the GC.

The Wii could have launched with no other games besides pack-in Wii Sports and still would have moved a boatload of units because motion controlzzzz media blitz.

Confirmed played a few rounds of Wii bowling with friends last night

Wii U just failed to launch with a 3D mario or zelda. Same mistake Gamecube had.

I'm convinced the GC is the most underrated console ever.

It had a TON of good games.

complete failure might be hyperbole, but Nintendo jumped to release this a year ahead of PS4/720 in order to try to establish a market position. They're clearly failing to do so, there are no games, there is no social buzz. Everyone is just looking forward to the new Sony and Microsoft consoles. Many people don't even know what the Wii U even is.

It's what happens when you've sunk 4 years and $35,000 into your Wii, right?
