Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

I'm thinking about getting a PS3 pretty soon now that I have a 58" 1080p plasma so I can watch Blu-Ray. What PS3-exclusive games should I get? I'm thinking Resistance, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, and maybe UT3. Am I missing anything good? Is Warhawk cool?

Rent Heavenly Sword and think about Devil May Cry.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

Initial impressions:
Blu-Ray is hot (watched Black Hawk Down tonight)
The analog sticks on the controller kinda have a dead spot compared to the 360 controllers which is a bit annoying; playing Resistance, it's harder to move the stick juuuust slightly so I can nail the small piece of that dude's head sticking out.
Resistance: This is more a commentary on the game than the PS3, but the level design seems a little bland so far. Compared to CoD4, the environment is really lacking in the detail that makes it come alive. Also, the colors are a little too bright as if I'm having a picnic outside - I mean, wtf, mankind is doomed, make it dark and cloudy or something.

Oh, and I assume some ****ing jerk took "goofyballer" on PSN because it wouldn't let me use that as my online name (although it wouldn't say why, just "cannot use that user id"). So, ImInUrFridge it is.

goofy, some other suggestions would be Ninja Gaiden if you haven't played it before. Rent Lair as it got some bad flak and definitely worth at least a rental. Resistance gets much 'darker' and the SP levels are much better toward the end of the game and the multiplayer is unique for 40 man FFA's. UT3 is awesome w/ mods, and there are about 15-20 of them out now. Lego Star Wars is fun if you don't have it for the 360. I hear Warhawk is awesome, though I don't have it. Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted are probably the two best games on the PS3. There are some great arcade games too like Super Stardust HD, Everyday Shooter, High Velocity Bowling (like wii bowling), Super Puzzle Fighter and lots of others I haven't tried. AceLuby if you feel like adding me.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

I played Ninja Gaiden on Xbox and was kinda meh on it, I'm not a big fan of slasher-type games (I liked Prince of Persia a lot but it was more puzzle-oriented and not as much button-mashing, I think). I was going to get Uncharted but read that it's short - is it a better rental than purchase? I feel retarded when I buy a game, play through it in 8 hours, and never touch it again.

Also, I think my problem with Resistance is that its graphical style reminds me a ton of TF2, except that TF2 is a completely non-serious game without a single-player game. I'll still play it through to the end though. I hopped online for 2 minutes and a.) got destroyed but I'm new so w/e, and also the server had one-hit kills set to "on" b.) kinda miss Xbox Live's matchmaking as opposed to going back to PC-style server browsing.

Wtf at ninja gaiden being button mashing. That game is so hard that if you just mash buttons you won't even beat the first level.

Well, if you just mash buttons in Street Fighter you'll get your ass beat too, but I would still qualify it as a "button mashing" game because even if there's a method to the manner in which you press lots of buttons in a short period of time, you are still mashing a large number of buttons.

Enjoy.

One of the most glowing reviews I've seen from him. For some reason it makes me happy that even he got some enjoyment out of CoD4.

some wii reviews:

trauma center - new blood: well worth a rent. interesting concept with the surgeries, and pretty well put together. not sure if the second one is better...
elebits: alright, but controls will put you on tilt so fast. wouldn't recommend it unless you have a g/f that likes playing games.
big brain academy: fun for a little while, but loses its flavour pretty quickly. still worth a rent though.
super mario galaxy: I love the game, but there is little to no replay value. a 5 day rental would be perfect for it.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

X-Com question.

I just downloaded this game for DOS. I played it for a few hours last night. It seems like I could get really into it.

I'm wondering, is the whole game: UFOs come down, you intercept them, you kill aliens at the crash site? If so, it seems like once I build lots of bases, I'll have to intercept tons of UFOs per day and the game will just completely slow down.

You might like Warioware wii. It's this goofy collection of micro-games. The main problem most people have with it is that it's pretty short, but that doesn't sound like something you are concerned about.

I hated it. It's mainly aimed at little kids - which is fine sometimes, but the narrator uses this super-happy, emphasize every word, fairy tale voice that makes me want to tear my eyes out every time I hear it. On top of that, the writing is really bad and super wordy, so every time you get a new message it takes like 10 minutes for this dumb chick to read the whole thing to you.

Oh, and the gameplay mostly seems to involve getting little pinata worms to mate so you can watch this stupid cut-scene of the worms doing the "love tango" or whatever the **** they call it.

I'm getting pissed off just thinking about this stupid game (note that I was basically forced to play it for 30 minutes or so - it's a long story).
