Don't get it if you use an SDTV. It has the text bug that some early games had where it is near impossible to read the text on the screen. This is how you get many mission objectives. Otherwise it's a pretty fun game with a few flaws. A good pick up for cheap.

After watching so many NES game reviews, I have this strong desire to go back and play them. But I want to play them with an NES controller. What's the easiest (and not too expensive) way to get a USB adapted controller and games?

When I bought HL2, there was a HL1-Steam-Version (i.e. HL1 updated to the engine of HL2) included. I don't really remember about OF and BS. I def. played OF and I think I played BS too, although I can't really remember. I don't know whether you should buy the "original" HL1 version because those gfx are def. pretty old.

my little cousin likes "Destroy All Humans" for xbox. What would an equivalent game be for xbox 360? (the 360 version of the game got horrendous reviews)

What sort of game is it? Earth Defense Force for the 360 is an action game with semi-role playing stuff (you increase your hitpoints and randomly find new weapons/upgrades/etc) and is probably one of the most fun co-op games there is. It's not too hot by yourself though. It also has graphics and voice acting so bad that they're good!

There's nothing to stop you from playing "Destroy All Humans" on the 360.

Something seems fishy about a DS Scrabble game that throws out t*ts and f***ers that quickly. I'm pretty sure that to get the letters needed for f***ers would take a bingo or it takes the kids putting down the word f***.

Just sayin.

Circuit City is really having some problems. They shut down all their stores in my city. Then, when I go to Raleigh, NC their display 360 has the RRoD. I really did lol.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

Well, this is sort of a random question, so maybe this is the correct place for it:

Does anyone remember the old computer game Under a Killing Moon? It was sort of in the vein of King's Quest or something like that, only it was set in the future and it was a cheesy hard-boiled detective story. It was also one of the first games that used live actors, if I recall correctly...the game was probably bad in reality but in the lens of nostalgia I remember this being one of the best games of my childhood.

The question is, does anyone know of any games that are similar to this for either PC or 360?

From "detective story" you might like Condemned, although it's two/thirds FPS (but with mostly melee weapons instead of guns).

Similar in what ways? There are a few adventure games still being made, but none of them that I know of have an atmosphere/setting similar to UaKM. The Sam & Max series is good...you could join GameTap for $10 a month and play them all. GameTap would also allow you to play a decent assortment of older adventure games, such as the King's Quest series and other "Quest" series.

As for Tex Murphy (the protagonist of UaKM), there were two games prior to that in the series without the live actors and first-person view, and two games after that in the series that used the same system with updated graphics. I played the first two (pretty good), and I eventually want to play the others. I think that most people would have difficulty playing any of them these days, first of all because it will be hard getting them to run, and second just because they'll feel so arcane if you can't let yourself be swept up in the nostalgia.

Ban! "Point-and-click" is not the first thing that should come to mind when thinking of King's Quest. Most of them are not even point-and-click; that didn't start until King's Quest V. In the beginning you had to move your character around with the arrow keys and type in what you wanted him to do.

"Get bowl", "talk to man".

Yeah, gotta say, these games sucked up an EMBARRASSING amount of my childhood. Gotta say that KQIV was the best of them. What a great game.

I loved Sierra games but for a long time did not have the right computer (Apple IIGS which would have run the first few, not sure why I never got them). I loved them so much that when my mom used to take us to Borders on Jazz night or whatever, I would sit and read the game walkthroughs in "The King's Quest Companion". They were descriptive and well written, so I played the games vicariously through reading the walkthroughs. It was a grand day indeed when I finally got my hands on the games for real.

The Space Quest section where you had to "hold breath" before "dive" (or otherwise drown) really had me jammed. I assumed I was missing an oxygen tank or something.

Anyone else think it's a bad idea to publicly release a guide for how to build a cheap supercomputer? It would be one thing to share the guide between scientists but publishing it on the internet is going to give hackers an enormous boost.

All it does is to allow people to do calculations faster. People who are trying to crack passwords through brute computing strength are so rare that it does not seem like much of a risk to me.

You obviously know more about security than I do so I'll have to take your word for that. And now that I think about it, most of the important targets for this type of thing lock out your account after a few failed login attempts anyway.

in the last year i have only been playing COD4, Halo3, and GH3. Have gotten other games but havent played them much.

(games gotten but not played include TW, Soul Calibur, Fifa)

anyways, I am now bored with all of these games. I need a new game to be addicted to.

note: I played Little Big Planet at a friends tonight and almost want to buy a PS3 just to have this game. also saw the graphics to GT5 which is ridiculous.

is a PS3 a decent enough investment? right now I only have an XBOX360 and am wanting to get both PS3 and Wii maybe.

But I have no idea what game I need to get.

i'm in the same boat. the games i consistently go back and play: GH3, RB2, COD4 and now Left 4 Dead...

...Left 4 Dead is more team based than any game i have played in a long time. sure it helps to have good team-mates for cod4 but 1 or 2 ownage players can win a round, that's not the case in left 4 dead. 1 or 2 solid players are not enough to win this game, everyone has to work as a team and victories are so satisfying because of that.

at the end of one match i was like the guys in pineapple express! spoiler below!

I'm a fan and would buy it again based on what I know. Little Big Planet is good fun, GT5 is utterly amazing when paired with a Logitech G25 racing wheel. We also have God of War 3 coming next year which is likely to rule. There is Metal Gear Solid 4 as well. Also it works fantastically as a media server, and of course there is Blu-Ray. YMMV.

I have all 3. The 360 gets the most play, mostly because of Halo 3. The PS3 is a decent enough investment. It's a quite expensive road to go down, though. If you don't already have an HDTV, you'll want one of those, then you need some blu-rays to watch because they look amazing. The Wii gets a good amount of play time because Smash Brothers is fun, but mostly it's stuff on the VC. Super Mario RPG and Super Metroid ftw. You'll spend more time on VC stuff for less money than any other system, imo. Great value if you're not looking for super flashy graphics.

As far as games for the PS3 go, Resistance I and II both seem pretty fun. I have played a little bit - the online aspect of Resistance II is pretty cool. That's about all I can say about it. My roommate plays all the time - I stick to Halo. I also can't wait for God of War III.

If for nothing else, once you get a PS3 you're well on your way to creating your own supercomputer. Good luck cracking a 128 bit key using brute force though.

To anybody remotely familiar with distributed computing environments, that "guide" was extremely rudimentary. There's ads on every page of that site and a not so subtle solicitation for donations. The site's purpose isn't too hard to discern.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

I just played Starcraft last night LANing 2v2 with friends. I had never played before. Fun game. I have Red Alert RTS experience out the butt, but Starcraft is a wee bit different.

I expect this and L4D to run the next month of my life.

Is there a thread of gamertags?

I don't think we have an official one. Several people have tried in the past, though, and the one in the CoD4 thread is pretty good.

Mine is AngryCola. Feel free to add.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo

I just replayed the original Starcraft campaigns. Was fun, not too hard, although the final Protoss level is abnormally difficult in comparison to the rest of the game... but then again, so is the final Zerg level in Brood War.

I personally never enjoyed Super Mario RPG. But I am replaying Chrono Trigger in normal mode and loving it. That should keep me off Poker for about 2 more days. :}
