Yea that's the thing. I really really want a Plasma for the picture quality -- I'll mostly be using the T.V. for movies. However, I do play games occasionally and am worried about burn-in and image retention. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns a Plasma and plays games on it, so I'm completely relying on second hand information. Any suggestions?

I have a plasma (Panasonic TH-50PZxxxx, forget what the last four digits are) and game on it a lot. I've never had a problem with image retention or burn in.

With respect to usage, I hardly ever put in marathon, 4+ hour gaming sessions, though. I have probably watched/left my TV on showing ESPN/CNBC/CNN (who have news tickers at the bottom) for 10+ hours at a time and I've never had a problem with image retention there, either.

So what I can say, based on my personal observation with respect to my TV:

- never had a problem with burn in
- do play video games on it frequently, but typically not for hours upon hours without stopping
- do watch TV with content that has burn-in/image retention risk (like bottom line tickers) associated with it, and do sometimes watch for hours and hours (ESPN on Saturdays during college football season, for instance) -- but have never had a problem

Your mileage may vary, of course.

I think my TV is the 58" version of DVaut's and I also play lots of games and I'd highly recommend the TV. I even once accidentally left the PS3 on for like 6 hours at the dashboard and it didn't affect the TV at all.

Best suggestion is to go to AVSforums, where there will be lots of tests and advice from people who own the particular models you might be considering, and also general discussion to help steer you toward what you might like best. There are some very knowledgeable people there who have really tweaked their stuff and put it through its paces, so they know it very well.

I'd recommend DLPs. They have an incredible image quality and none of the problems of other sets such as burn in, ghosting, image delay, etc.. Their main downside is that there can be viewing angle problems (the image is unclear if you're for example laying down on the floor looking up at a 50" TV, or if you're looking at the TV from sharp side angles like roughly 45 degrees out from the TV.

They're also the most affordable option by far.

Also, there's a chess forum now: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/14...r-board-games/

Figure the group of poker player/video game player probably has alot of chess fans in it as well.

Picked up Eat Led (rented) for the PS3.

For some reason I cannot get the audio to play.
Put in Heavenly Sword and it's working fine, put in a PS2 game and it's working fine.
Put in Eat Led and nothing.

Video through HDMI, Audio through Optical cord.... weird

I agree and honestly the viewing angle problems are only pronounced when you also have a bad glare from a window. If it's night time or you're blocking window glare, the viewing angle is only an issue at ridiculous angles that no one would watch a TV comfortably from anyway.

I have been playing around with a game design idea for a while and am probably going to get serious about making it a reality eventually. (Flash multiplayer games should become a sort of emerging market.)

Anyhow, my idea is similar to the FF Tactics games in some ways. I haven't played the series past the original very much and am sort of intentionally not reading about them to keep my mind pure for now and not copy them.

I am trying to come up with more class ideas and am drawing a blank right now. If anyone feels like throwing out some ideas for off the wall classes (like the original had oracles and mediators), it would be great. I can't promise $, but if the game gets made and I use the idea, I will note you in the credits and give you premium items if you want to play.

note: tentatively character classes will branch off around a fairly high level into 2 similar classes, so if you can make the idea fit that format it is extra good.

ex: basic archers branch into a more AOE oriented type or more focused damage hunter toward the endgame

Gamestop has a buy 2, get 1 free on used games this weekend. Stackable with the edge card.

At ToysRUs, if you buy RE5, you get a $20 gift card (today and tomorrow only).

Just giving people a heads-up.

Cant you really call classes anything? Isnt it more about what the class is meant for and how it will be implemented?

Duke
Knight- high movement, high damage, low df, ok hp
Lord
Joker- aoe spellcaster that works on status sleep, silence, poison etc.
Magistar
Nightwing
Dragonwarrior-slow, good hp, high df, ok dmg, i.e. tank
Merlin- spell caster, mainly DD, good range on spell, weak aoe, hp low, df low, physical attack awful

Then you can just make hybrid classes, support classes, healing classes etc.

I just finished Bioshock, such a good game and such a terrible ending. I kept waiting for something else. Also, lol at the achievement thing popping up during the cinema scene before I knew it was the end.

Also, ty to whoever posted the Buy 2/1 Free Gamestop thing above. I finally picked up Mario Galaxy, and got Mercenaries 2 (I loved the first one...just mindless fun), and Mirror's Edge (got talked into it by creepy employee when I couldn't decide on a third, and got it basically so I could flee)

So my Xbox got a ring of death today, 1 ring in lower right quadrant. Gives me the error code E 74 contact microsoft blah blah

Microsoft said this happened because I applied an auto-update. REALLY?

"Hello Mike,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft online support for XBOX. I am Mimi and I will be helping you today with this issue.

As I understand when you perform an auto-update on the Xbox 360 console and then restart it, the lower-right quadrant of the Ring of Light flashes red. Additionally, you receive the following error message: "E74. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support" "

Thanks for putting some effort to this for me but I didn't get a lot from it. I am talking to some investors and kind of hopeful, but I think this game will really get made some day. Game ideas are a dime a dozen and I will have to put a lot of work into getting mine made no matter how good I think it is. I will explain a little more about the game:

If you guys have played FF Tactics, you know it is a sort of turn based fantasy RPG. I am going off some of its basic mechanics but making something that will work better as an MMO. The foundation of the game is the combat system. I can't say too much but it will get people more involved than just sitting there waiting for your opponent to move X spaces, turn and cast fireball or w/e.

I am being mindful of balance from the ground up and battles should be more like chess matches than anything else. I have a stat system that is a little more complex than usual and each has its own companion stat like DEX/AGI. I should end up with at least 30 basic classes with each branching out into 2 variations in the endgame. So yeah, I can sort of call them anything but the class name and skills need to fit its paradigm. Right now I have an WODNGJFFDIRHD character with no real aim or skills yet, because I just haven't tried to make it work yet.

Anyhow, I know what a fighter is and already have a pretty diverse set of about 40~ possible branches of classes roughly drawn up. I am concentrating more on about 10 of those to get basic mechanics working well right now. I can research and find out obscure names for classes on my own, but am offering the chance for you guys to help out. I have no clue what a "magistar" is but I already have notes on a sabaist/astrologer type. The typical "mage" class has a "nuker" type guy and a 'binder' that emphasizes buffs and support a bit more. The game modes should go beyond what you expect in a FFT game so I have some other classes like bishop, grenadier, monarch, apothecary as rough ideas. So, I am looking for stuff more along those lines, sorry I didn't explain better earlier.

MMORPG's have been working on this for ages. Unless you haven't been playing any, or any strat games in the last 10 or 15 years, I'm surprised you would even ask these questions. It's all pretty much broken down by now already. Whatever names you call the same basic concepts really doesn't even matter.

Let me share my idea for an awesome online MMORPG game as follows:

a) There are two key parts to the game: an FPS part and an RTS part

b) Each character starts out as either an enlisted soldier or an officer

c) The officers play the RTS part - but with real people controlling the individual soldiers in the battle, like in a FPS

d) eg, the "Officer" would direct you what to do, and be able to see the whole battlefield, like in COH

e) it'd be up to the individual soldiers on how to get there

f) excellent work would allow promotion like an MMORPG; the officers would rate the performance of their soldiers

g) senior officers would be able to allocate people to missions, direct where to fight the war, etc

h) each player may have multiple characters for when they want to play some FPS/RTS/etc.

i) Future expansions to include air combat and so on... eg, a senior officer could direct bombers to come and impact on the RTS/FPS battle as per above

I need a new PC game to get addicted to.

A little background...

19/male/ loves sports/ I have a dog.

I basically dedicated like 2 years of my life to runescape and sadly enjoyed every moment of it... so I'm kinda looking for a new game that plays closely the same to this. idk where to start. I've looked at and tried various games with no success in terms of I just didn't like anything.

so, maybe someone here can help?

maybeeee...
