Fallout 2 mod, Fallout 1.5, localized in English yesterday: http://resurrection.cz/en/ (originally released in 2013). Apparently the mod amounts to an entirely new game in a new setting (New Mexico), with a map about the size of the first Fallout game but with more quests. Just installed it on my old laptop, very excited to check it out since I absolutely love those first two Fallout games.

Anyone have any good recommendations for apps/games for children? In particular looking for 3-6, but anything really.

My two like slitherio and agario. Easy to pick up for kids that age. Drawing app called Doodle buddy is also worth downloading.

Actually, some of the scary factory scenes may be less appropriate for a 3 year old, now I think on it.

Angry Birds?

I don't know if it's true or not, but in this spoiler there is a pic of the xray of that guy that got smashed. He crushed his skull :-/ warning, NSFW or for the squeamish?

Mods can remove this if it's totally inappropriate.

Spoiler:

Carry on with game talk. I just wanted to mention it and then I figured everyone would google the pic on their own anyway.

Oh wow I just glanced at the video and thought the guy jumped up and threw a really awkward punch which somehow knocked out the other guy... didn't even see it was a knee to the face.

For Xbox owners, Spelunky is free Game with Gold for this month. I still have my 360 but I've built a pretty nice XBone library just through GWG, will probably get the XBone S or the Scorpio because of it.

You get them as part of your gold sub. You just go to the free game and select to save to your library. Then when you get an xbone you can download all you've saved

Dammit I've missed so many potential future free games why is this not possible from the web store (or is it?)

It is. I also didn't realize for a few months that I should be adding Xbone games to my account as I had no plans to get one, but between backwards comparability and GWG I should never have to actually purchase a game, will just need to put up the overlay on the system at some point (which I mind even less given that I can use it to play 4K blurays). They've had some good ones including Sunset Overdrive, Lords of the Fallen, and Banner Saga 2.

This has surely not always been the case, I absolutely looked in to it when GWG started offering xbone games!

I don't have any immidiate plans to buy an xbone, but I do have a 360 and gold - and bought a Vita a year ago or so after having built up a huge library of free games and it was well worth it!

Something I am toying with as a way to balance buying new games with going through my backlog: saying no to [most] sequels. Unless a game is spinning a great tale that I'm invested in (Mass Effect) or has some unique gameplay elements that warrant reexamination/didn't get enough of first time (Dishonored 2, maybe?), you basically end up paying to play the exact same thing over again. Recently played both Dead Space and Borderlands 2 and while I enjoyed both, I found myself more interested in inferior but more unique concepts, like Titan Souls. I've also noticed that a huge chunk of the current gen console games I had on my "want list" are sequels and remasters - there's sort of a dearth of original IPs, save for the strong indie market.

i would recommend watching today's quake live 1v1 final from quakecon. rapha won the WB so he gets given a 1-0 head start in the BO5:

https://www.twitch.tv/quakecon/v/82160200

starts at 2h31m. you don't need to be a fan of the game to watch this. it's incredibly good entertainment.

Latest episode of Back Seat Designers podcast ("SPECIAL" with Shawn Mills) is worth a listen if you're into adventure games. It's a talk with one of the founders of Infamous Quests, one of the companies that makes "retro" point-and-click adventures like Quest for Infamy and Order of the Thorne. They recently announced that they're closing, and this goes into detail.

Basically, despite being a company that gets a lot of interest from fan communities (communities who criticize evil modern gaming companies for not wanting to make outdated point-and-click adventure games), they've sold just 1,000 copies of their latest game at $10 a pop (minus sales and fees to GOG and Steam etc.). As they have a number of people working full-time, this is not anywhere near enough.

I wanted to say something about Order of the Thorne here at some point. I've played it a bit and it's a charming throwback to old school King's Quest. I got it for free through Twitter from the devs by accident though, so I'm absolutely drowning in guilt over the company's failure.
