I impulse bought THPS 4 because it's pretty cheap for the PS2 now. And after playing it a lot over the weekend, I realize there's not much left in the game to do. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I bought the game. But I guess I just wanted to have some kind of skateboarding game in my collection. It's not that I regret buying it. But it seemed to get old really fast.

TH: Project 8 is worth playing, even though it doesn't expand on the series much.

TH: Proving Ground blows though. They tried to be different but ****ed the game up.

I was reading an article about how MS unfairly treated their customers. But it wasn't about the RROD. It was about the Xbox (the original one). It pointed out that, even though Sony has the PS3 out, it still encourages developers to make PS2 games and still sells PS2 hardware. In contrast, MS abandoned the original Xbox and encouraged the developers to do the same. As a result, you have big games come out for both the PS2 and PS3. But only the 360, and not the original Xbox.

Now, the article is incomplete because it complete ignores the fact that Nintendo did the same thing with the GameCube (and the 64 before it). It also ignores the fact that the PS2 has a much larger installed base than the original Xbox, and it doesn't make sense to completely ignore such a huge market.

Thoughts?

different strategies for Sony and MS. I think going into this generation Sony was planning on the long term, and was more concerned with slowly growing the PS3 base. Thats my opinion at least. I feel like the 360 is the better system right now, but in a few years that could completely change once people learn more about the PS3's capabilties. MS was moving forward, and IMO wanted people to switch over ASAP because they wanted to shift their machine and hardware to something different. I actually think their new system will be a big leap over the 360, and will probably be their best. At that point, I think MS has a big battle because the PS3 could be hitting its stride and pumping out some big games.

I made my post without doing any research. So I decided to check if games were still coming out for the Xbox. They are. Madden 09 has an original Xbox version.

But it's pretty rare. If you look at the Amazon best selling games list by console, Madden 09 is the only new game on the list. All the other games have been out a while. Same result for GameCube, except there are no new games at all. In contrast, there are many new games on the best selling PS2 list.

Twenty stars into Galaxy. I'm surprised at the "too easy" talk. I've played every good 3D platformer since 1996 and would not consider this game to be easy. Obviously I'm assuming you have to get all 120 stars or very close to it, not just 60 to beat it. Even just in these first 20 stars there have been harder challenges (from an action/hand-eye coordination perspective) than just about anything I've seen in 3D platforming.

Isn't looking like there's going to be any of those more "puzzling" challenges where you're not even sure what you need to do like in Mario 64, but I'll still take it. I prefer 8-10 really large levels with a lot to do than the tiny levels, but again I'll take it.

The current 360 userbase is about 19million. The XBox userbase was 24million.
The current PS3 userbase is about 15million. The PS2 userbase was 140million.

The 360 offers backwards compatability for most XBox games.
Most PS3s offer no backwards compatability for PS2 games.

Seems kind of like another nonissue, especially if you assume that at least a reasonable portion of current 360 owners owned an original XBox. The XBox market was not particularly large and people have no reason to own XBox's anymore. The PS2 market was massive, is still growing, and there is every reason in the world to still own (or even purchase) a PS2.

Anyone getting TNA Impact? IGN review has put me off a bit but I'm so desperate for a new No Mercy that I might have to try it anyway. My N64 broke this year to make things worse.

Depend on what you mean by "beat" it. The game clearly tells you that your goal is to go to the center of the Galaxy to meet Bowser. And you can only travel to the center of the Galaxy once you get to 60 stars. There are additional endings at 120 stars and 240. But they just seem to add extra scenes to the one you get for 60.

I got to 60 stars, beat Bowser, and rescued the Princess. Is there more to do? Sure. But I personally consider the game to be beaten, with 120 stars just being an "additional" task. (Similarly, I consider GTA 4 to be finished when you beat the final mission, not when you get 100%).

I can't really comment on the "easy" part because I haven't played any other 3d platformers. I had some difficulty on certain levels. But I'm pretty sure that I lost all my lives only once or twice in getting 60 stars. Losing all my lives happened a lot more often on Super Mario World.

So a friend of mine gave me a copy of Kameo, Elements of Magic for 360 a while back. He saw it new at a store for $10 and said it was worth a play. I've had it for months and never touched it, thought it looked dumb.

Was on paternity leave for a while and decided to try it. I was surprised how fun the game was. Not particularly long, but had a good simple Mario/Zelda feel to it in some ways. I was actually surprised how similar parts of the gameplay were to Zelda TP for the Wii.

So, for a game that came out in 2005, it was pretty good.

Beat Too Human, and will probably go through it at least one more time with a different class.
Not sure what game to start next though as I've got a back log of games.
Gears of War, God of War 2, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Metal Gear Solid 4, Halo 3, Fable, Oblivion, Kingdom Under Fire (360 one), Ninja Gaiden II, Bioshock......

need some video card recommendations for an old pc. 2.66ghz celeron d, 1.5 gb ddr ram, 2 pci slots free. hopefully something with a good balance of quality without being too expensive. it won't be upgraded anymore than this. this + a decent card should be capable of running most games from ~2 years ago, right?

GREAT series.
Ditto God of War 2. Its rare for a sequel to actually be better than the first, but this is the case of GOW2. I can't wait for GOW3.

maybe a 7600gt? you also might want to factor in getting a new power supply depending on how big a card you get, also check computer technical help

Bad example with Super Mario World. Super Mario World is "too easy" because there's a warp early in Level 2 that takes you all the way to Bowser's fortress. Why bother playing all of the other levels? That would just be an additional task.

If you played through Super Mario World in a linear fashion without the shortcut, it would take you a lot longer to beat. If you play through Galaxy in a linear fashion, the storyline is pretty much "finished" halfway through the game. It would be like if all you had to do in SMW was beat the Koopa in castle #4.

Well, my SMW example was talking about the relative ease of the game.

You're talking about how to "complete" the game. The goal of the game (the goal of all Mario platform games) is to defeat Bowser and rescue the Princess. In SMW, you can do it in 11 levels, 16 levels, 76 levels, or 96 levels or anything in between. But once you defeated Bowser you've completed the game. You may want to play the other levels because they are fun, but it doesn't change the fact that you have completed the game. Same with SMB1, where you can warp to world 4, then world 8 pretty quickly. You're done when you beat Bowser. You can play more levels if you want, but they are optional.

With Galaxy it's true also. You've beaten him at 60 stars. You can play 120 stars if you want. You can repeat the entire 120 stars as Luigi if you want. Doesn't change the fact that you've beaten the game at 60.

Gears of War seems really overrated. Just played it for a little more than an hour, graphics are meh, everything is set so dark it's kind of hard to see, but the cover system is pretty cool.

The game pissed my off into quitting when I come across an enemy on a turret. He'll be firing at my squadmates across the room and as soon as I pop up his sights are on me. Well I get through that part and it becomes necessary to use said turret to suppress enemy reinforcements. The turret moves slow as ****ing balls such that it's difficult to hit two enemies standing next to eachother without one having time to take cover.

Surprised you think so. I remember the graphics being pretty stunning, and it's not like 360 games have gotten that much better looking since. It was by far the best looking game on 360 when it came out.

Maybe my standards are too high? All my hi-def gaming experience is in the like 10 hours of Mass Effect I've played and the ~1 hour I've seen of my friends playing COD4 online oh and playing halflife2 on my computer. In particular the textures seem kind of poor in GoW.

I should add that the game hasn't been terribly fun so far. I think I'm going to give it up until the first boss battle and if I haven't been sucked in by then I'll get rid of it.
