I was watching this chick play H1Z1 last night and she threw up on her floor after smelling a shot of vodka, then at viewers request panned the webcam over to the vomit-covered floor.

10/10.

You see, he does have an audience. The sort of dude with REALLY STRONG opinions about how videogames shouldn't have intrusive copy protection but who treats misogyny in the industry as a joke eats his act up.

The only question is whether it's an act. He might just be clueless.

I dunno, maybe we can turn this in a productive manner. The only video game Youtube people I remotely follow are Yahtzee(who is pretty much just going through the motions now, his schtick has been washed for like 3 years) and Extra Credits, which would be 100% better without their schtick at all. Is there anyone else out there doing good stuff?

I tend to not follow "general content" people because if I'm looking for "content" about any particular game there's always another better person out there who specializes in that game that can give me the info or entertainment content I'm looking for

If you're referring to me as treating misogyny as a joke, I'd like to know why. Misogyny is a hatred of women, I certainly don't, nor have I ever encountered any well known personality I would label that way including TB. I (and people I assume you'd label as misogynist) get annoyed with the current discussions around women in the industry because of how caustic and wrong-headed they tend to be on both sides, but I'd love there to be more intelligent and capable women developers and journalists/youtubers/streamers/whatever out there than there are now.

As far as other Youtubers to watch, here are my top follows.

Mathewmatosis - long form critiques of new and old games, he does a lot of research and prep for each video which is why they come out so rarely.

Super Bunnyhop - like above, but more aimed at industry trends or issues than on particular games.

Matt Barton - dude is an odd character, but lines up interviews with some really interesting old-school developers.

Scott Manley - space game buff and professional astronomer, he has skilled LPs for most games in the genre and has a cool, funny personality. His Intersteller Quest series is a must watch, he RPs a career mode exploration of the entire Kerbal Space Program galaxy.

Quill18 - same as above but for strategy games. Paradox, new games like SC2013 and Cities, indies like Rimworld, etc.

NerdCubed - silly short videos, basically a less obnoxious PewDiePie?

FRANKIEonPCin1080p - highly skilled FPS player that puts out well produced gameplay videos in most popular PC FPS games.

I'd love to find some more, I usually put someone on my other monitor while playing a game. I'm curious why I haven't found any interesting female gaming youtubers, and only a few on Twitch like AnneMunition (mostly Minecraft with the random indie game) and Jendenise (mostly DkS2)

From the perspective of a non-GG'er in case you need that:

Matt Barton is good primarily for the long interviews with really old-school industry veterans. Check out Rebecca Heineman who worked on '80s RPG's such as The Bard's Tale, the most entertaining one I've seen. Barton has made typical ignorant nerd misogynist quips in the past but that was a while back.

The best is Errant Signal (Campster), not a GG moron type and an intelligent thinker. Does reviews generally of modern games with lots of indie. Often speaks on certain topics rather than specific games. The videos are well put together, not a talking head.

How common are console bundle sales?

We got an xbone for 350 that came with $140 worth of free games, plus $10 off a second controller and $20 off a gold membership card thing, so about $170 of freebies/savings.

Is that pretty decent or just about average?

They're pretty standard. Our EB currently has like four different bundles for Xbone and PS4 and one for Wii U. They usually come with three or four games and vouchers. You actually can't buy a new console by itself.

You might try Costco. But margins on video games are really slim so best price is going to be virtually identical at all major retailers.

The AC/Titanfall bundle? That's as good as it's ever been, but obviously the trend for consoles is always more stuff, lower prices, etc. You didn't buy at a bad time, that bundle is pretty new, so you hit one of the sweet spots.

But there will be a better newer sweet spot down the road after the next price cut, inevitable really. And as the guy said, bundles are the new normal. $460 w/ one game bundles turned into $400 with one game bundles turned into $400 with two games, $350 with one, and so forth.

Yeah, the only choices here were Halo and AC/AC/Titanfall bundles. Don't care at all about Halo and always wanted to try AC, so pretty easy choice.

And in case you missed it, the Titanfall Season pass went free a couple of weeks ago. Not sure how active the community is but I'd be tempted to try it out with all the new features after playing it for a few weeks after launch, getting bored, and selling it.

It's a very good bundle no doubt. I am not sure why you're asking, but I will say if you're looking to pick up the other one don't expect similar bundles on PS4 any time soon - prob black Friday? Xbox is "struggling", therefore fire sale. PS4 continues to sell steadily higher outside of the holiday season in USA (and RoW isn't even a question), so they basically are doing nothing to combat Microsoft's aggressive price cutting/bundling for now. Seems mostly standard for Sony to include one game for a maybe $10 or $20 saving.

I don't want to start a flame war but if you don't like Halo what made you choose Xbox?

Meh this forum is usually pretty good about flame wars, and I think it's a pretty good consumer discussion to have in any case. I chose an Xbox 360 over a PS3 (probably because they were less expensive on ebay and I wanted to play Mass Effect) and don't think I've ever regretted the decision, but if I were to upgrade (theoretically, as I don't plan on it) I would get a PS4 hands down. Something tells me a lot of people who owned 360s bought Xbones as a result of inertia, or maybe they wanted some of the "living room" features, but the lack of backwards compatibility is basically a death sentence as far as I'm concerned. They squeezed some sales out of the Titanfall exclusive but other than Halo I don't know what else they have coming up, outside of the Windows 10 cross-platform which could actually be pretty cool.

All the games Giz and I want to play are available on both consoles. And the controller is more comfortable in both of our hands. (Aside from the little ridge thing on the thumbsticks that are giving us blisters)

Most of the decisions Sony made gave us less incentives to stick with PS, like lack of backwards compatibility and such. Buying a PS4 was approximately equal to buying an xbone from our perspective*, so we picked the one that was more comfortable to use. /shrug

* I.e. all the perks of buying a PS3 over 360 were eliminated to make the ps4 more Xbox-like, such as requiring a sub to play online

Be warned that the sale ends today so hurry up.

Be also warned that the "Game of Thrones" on sale is not the current well-reviewed Telltale episodic version, but the one from a few years ago that was crappy.

All of the Telltale games on sale are definitely worth picking up for less than $1, including Back to the Future and Jurassic Park which got bad to mediocre reviews but are worthwhile if you are a big fan of the films and/or just want a slightly different, more relaxing console experience once in a while.

Sam & Max: Devil's Playhouse (I think that's on there) is a pretty top-notch adventure game imo, does a lot of interesting things with the genre's usual tropes and each episode has a different gameplay twist to it. The other Sam & Max season is mediocre (there's also a third that is not on PSN) but you might want to play it as it comes first chronologically.

I might have to get Dino Crisis (PS1 classic). I have no time to play it anytime soon and already have PS1 classics backed up (Final Fantasy 1-2, Tomb Raider 1, Spyro 3) but again...less than $1. I've been nostalgic for the original Resident Evil gameplay.

This is a kinda fascinating insight in to the PS3 -> xboxone convert, surely the far more rare than the IIRC pretty standard x360 -> PS4 convert. Though I suppose it boils down to "controller is more comfortable, and now pay for online is no longer a differentiator that swings it"

I was the opposite - skipped PS3 in favor of x360 for the superior multiplats, no qualms with PS4 charging for online since that's "normal" to me now after 6 years of live, DS4 seems comfortable enough and I was never really uncomfortable with the DS3 vs x360 pad (I had a sixaxis for PC use). Backwards compatibility irrelevant on both since xbox has none and PS4 may do at some time in the future via PSNOW but I have no PS3 and streaming is not my sort of thing atm. And of course superior multiplats.

I've thought that the far superior PS4 library would be enough for anyone especially considering Halo isn't a factor, but hey, as long as you make an educated choice then personal preference is whatever. I'm no fanboy.
