Where's the new footage from in that gif? The flashing on the bridge looks weird, could be some debug version stuff that isn't representative of the final product. If that's from something they publicly released...yikes.

Yeah, that doesn't look like much of a graphic downgrade, but there's a texture/lighting bug on the bridge when it rises.

Like here's the trailer, which doesn't appear to contain that scene, so IDK. That footage all looks pretty much what I'd expect from next gen GTA clones.

And last but definitely not least the following screenshot has appeared in the thread. Now I simply can’t believe this is a real screenshot from the game but apparently it was taken from an Italian event around this game.
I don't get it, what's the problem with the screenshot he's talking about? Not dark + raining?

I think the context is pretty poor in the first gif - aside from the weird bridge flashing, the other thing that looks bad is the car driving on empty road - the road textures aren't very detailed, and that gif makes them stand out a lot. In the second gif, with other cars around and a lot more going on, you don't even notice it.

It looks way better than GTA V, which itself was a pretty big technical achievement on 360/PS3, and this is under a year into the new console lifecycle. I don't think the sky is falling wrt this game's graphics yet.

I am trying and failing to get WoW running on my crappy PC. If anyone could recommend what to upgrade, I would be very grateful! Blizzard seems to think my video card is the problem, but I imagine the CPU is also bad. I can't easily replace a CPU though, right? I have replaced a video card before.

Intel(R) Core2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz 2.13 GHz
3.00 GB RAM
Windows 7
PSU: 350W (I think this is the limiting factor for a new video card)

Video Card:
ASUS
NVIDIA : GT210 : 1GB : EN210SILENT/DI/1GD3/V2/LP
589 MHz : DVI, HDMI, VGA : 2 Displays :

WoW recommended System Requirements:
Processor: Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 2.6GHz or better
Video NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, ATI™ Radeon HD 4830 (512 MB) or better
Memory 4 GB RAM

Is it not even loading in to the game or are you just getting terrible fps? Seems like that should still be able to run WoW with lower settings without a problem, although it'll probably chug on some of the newer content.

EDIT: strike that, http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages...review,11.html makes me think you'll probably be getting <10 fps no matter what outside of Goldshire.

The CPU is pretty old, but WoW is a pretty CPU intensive game from what I remember. The mobo you have now probably doesn't support the socket types for newer CPUs, so you'll likely have to upgrade both. If you're strapped for cash, you can probably find a $150 used mobo/cpu combo on ebay for a decent quad-core i5/i7 and throw in a new GTX 650 Ti for around $120 or shop around used. The power supply should be enough for newer efficient cards like the 650 Ti, otherwise it'll be an issue.

Further edit: if it's a factory PSU and not a good aftermarket like Corsair or Antec or something I'd replace it too. That's another $75-100 iirc.

I think if it were your PSU your whole system would crash if it were getting stressed enough, same thing if your hardware temps were too high, does sound like a GPU problem. Download CPUID Hardware Monitor, load WoW up for a few minutes and post a screenshot of the readings, should show what's going on with your power consumption and temps.

RPG question:

Do any tactics or strategy RPGs which use parties (rather than single characters) exist, other than Ogre Battle (and Ogre Battle 64)? Even something with split parties like Final Fantasy VI's final dungeon or something like Suikoden 3 major battles where a small part of the game involves this would be interesting. Or something like the parts in FF6 where you have multiple parties protecting a character.

Not familiar with those, sound like JRPGs, but you might like Might and Magic X that just came out or maybe Fallout Tactics. If you like Might and Magic, Legend of Grimrock is in the same style.

Looking at what Ogre Battle is, you might also like the Myth series by Bungie of Halo fame, no RPG elements but a purely tactical RTS series. They're older games (late 90s) but the community has the source code and is still keeping them updated.

I was a huge fan of Ogre Battle 64 and have looked for years for a similar game. The closest I've found is Soul Nomad and the World Eaters for the PS2. It has an extremely similar set up for your party in the front/mid/back row and that changes their attack type and times used per battle. The battles are automatically resolved like in Ogre Battle, but you move around on a grid based map and can use special abilities before encountering a group of units.

Soul Nomad is an example of what I'm looking for. Thanks much; I'll have to check that out. It looks promising.

I'll rephrase my question because I think I could have explained it better. I'm interested in games where the smallest moveable units are parties of multiple people; so that rules out Fire Emblem, FF tactics, etc. where you move single individual characters one at a time who then fight one on one battles. A game like Fire Emblem but you control 12 parties of six characters each for each map would be excellent (or even 3 parties of 5 characters each, or 96 characters split into 8 parties, etc.).

saga frontier 2 has a few maps like that which are similar, and a lot of fun, but the game isn't based on it.
