I was away from my video game systems this weekend, so I got a NES emulator and downloaded Super Mario Bros 1. That game truly sucks. I can't believe the boss at every world is the same. How boring is that? And the ending: "Do it again" is not a satisfactory ending.

Super Mario Bros 3 is a MUCH better game. With the difference in graphics, hard to believe they were made for the same system. And there is much more variety in the game.

As for the difference between an emulator and Virtual Console. The emulator makes the games so much easier. I can save at any point of the game, so if I miss a tough jump, I go right back to the jump, instead to the beginning of the level. It might make the game too easy though (I finished SMB 1 in a few hours).

Guys, I don't have an X-Box, so I know this is a total noob question, but I figured I would ask in the **** thread: what exactly is the RROD?

Red Ring of Death, signifies hardware(?) failure on the 360. The normal lights boot green.

i know everyone is playing GTA4, which sits beside me unopened, but I'm pretty into Lost Odyssey right now and don't want to start GTA4 because I'm afraid I might not want to go back to LO for a while.

Just got Ming on disc two and going to steal a boat. I'm loving this game a ton!

Q: Super Mario Galaxy (wii)

If I get hit by an enemy and lose some of my life, can I replenish it with my stored coins Ive already collected, or do I HAVE to go and find a new coin to bring back health?

New Coins. Thats why during boss battles you don't go pick up the coins right away, or you have nothing to replenish your health...

so I just ordered an external USB hard drive for ps3. I hooked it up to my computer, put a bunch of 1080p mkv moves on it (transcoded to work on ps3, which took about 5 min on my comp using a mkv2vob imo) then hook it up to my ps3, and boom a ton of HD movies. looks identical to blu-ray. ps3 is pretty sick as a media center. w00t.

glad you're enjoying it chesskid. just to note, you can use stuff like windows media player or a compatible network attached storage device to provide content to your ps3 over your lan as well.

You took my next post . . .

I don't think complaining about the best selling game of all time is that big a deal. It's not like the NES was a terrible system, considering that SMB 3 is still a very good game, even today. It's no Super Mario Galaxy, but it's still a lot of fun. I can't even say that SMB 1 was even fun.

yeah, i considered networking my PS3 but I never really get online since online console gaming doesn't really interest me and i don't really have much hard drive space. on my PC.

anyways, i got a 500 GB external for $100 on newegg which is pretty awesome, and I can prolly fit around 40-50 HD movies on it, and of course will get another hard drive when that one gets full, plus i can let a friend borrow it sometimes haha my only concern is that scrolling through movies will be a pain since there will be alot and when i connnected my ps3 to my pc to look at my movies it was hard to sort through them all. I plan to include cover art with all the movies so hopefully it's not too bad and I can just scroll through Photos to look at art and pick a movie, then go to the video tab and pick it.

Finally finished SMB 3. Great game with a great ending. Bowser was a little easier to beat than I thought he should be. But other than that, it was a lot of fun.

Any other good NES game I should try? (This NES emulator is a great way to kill time during lunch.) I have a SNES emulator also, but those games are harder to play with the keyboard. I might pick up a USB controller, though, just to get through Super Mario World.

So I did get a USB gamepad so I can use the SNES emulator. I got Super Mario Kart and that game did not age well at all. As I've posted here, I loved Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 3, two 17+ year old games that have aged incredibly well. But Super Mario Kart's are so bad that I really don't like playing it at all.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island may look silly at first, but many consider it the best 2D platformer ever.

Did you actually play through every single level on SMB3 or use warps?

I did every level on SMB3 except the Hand levels. I should probably go back and do them. I did use warps to finish SMW on Virtual Console, but am going back through to do all the levels on the emulator. I have been just flying to the end on the levels I already did on Virtual Console, though.
