Angry Birds being available for pc now has completely ruined what little social life I had left. I am completely obsessed with beating every level.

Looks like $250 buys you just the console? I didn't see any mention of it coming with any games.

Can't wait to play RE:Mercenaries

I don't know why anyone would buy anything other than the DS or DS lite. You can't play GBA games on these new ones. Being able to play GBA games is a must for me.

Thats what I am fighting with Cole. I haven't owned a handheld since gameboy color, and would like to play some of the great GBA games, so I could get a cheap old DS. But, I am really thinking the 3DS looks awesome, so at least if I got that, I could play the 3DS and DS games, and just miss out on a generation of games (I already have a 30+ game backlog, I don't need any more). Or I could always get a GBA for like $10 or something.

Just looked on Ebay, lots of buy it now price for the system itself between $20 and $30. I am really good at not buying games and systems brand new since I have so much to play, so I save a ton of money.

Fair enough. I hate that they keep introducing more and more DS models.

Regular DS, DS Light, DSi, DSi XL, 3D DSi. Jesus Christ that's a lot of models. It's only been out for 6 years, that's nearly a model every year!

Moved into new place last week. Currently being dicked around by comcast.

Other option for Internet is verizon which is 1.5-3mbps. How would online gaming (360/ps3) be at these speeds?

Speed is not that important for gaming, but I guess you people will never understand that and keep posting speedtest results.

Most FPS need 1-2mbps TOPS, there is no way to go above that. The real factor is ping to the server, NAT setting of the ISP and most important of all PACKET LOSS. Whoever thinks his 50mbps connection is be default better than a 2mbps connection, is a giant moron.

To answer your question: there is no way to know, unless you get a diagnostic of the line. The speed is enough ( if it has around 0.5mbps upload too ), but there is no way to tell how congested the line is going to be.

Well if I was knowledgeable about it I woldnt have to ask.

I assumed going from cable to verizon dsl (that's what non fios is I believe) would be a big drop in quality. Shrug

They do that with most of their handheld products. But 3DS is actually a new jump to a future technology.

The main Nintendo handheld lineage:
Gameboy
Gameboy Advance
Nintendo DS
Nintendo 3DS

But you can also get into quite a large subsets. I would argue that Gameboy Color is sort of a sub-set, since they created games only for that system, but then you could argue the same for DSi, since you can download games on it...

Gameboy
Gameboy: Released 1989
Gameboy Pocket: 1996
Gameboy Light: 1998
Gameboy Color: 1998

Gameboy Advance
GBA: 2001
GBA SP: 2003
GBA Micro: 2005

Nintendo DS
DS: 2004
DS Lite: 2006
DSi: 2009
DSi XL: 2010

Nintendo 3DS
3DS: 2011
?????: sometime in the future

Which system are you talking about, the original? I say if you are going to get one at least get the SP. The SP was perfectly sized. I never actually owned the original GBA but it seems clunky compared to the SP.

I never played around with the micro, it looked like it was too small. Perhaps someone else can chime in on SP v Micro though

There weren't many micros sold, so not as many on the resale market. I first started looking at both, but after a little research, I decided I will be getting an SP. Missed out on a decent bundle this morning on ebay, but I have some good choices picked out, think I can get a system and a charger (not all come w/ one) and 2 games (Mario Kart and Minish Cap) for ~$50 including shipping. That would be a good starter set for me.

I remember playing the Advance when it first came out, and holding it so far apart felt a bit uncomfortable, and the screen is a lot less likely to be damaged w/ an SP than a regular when buying used. Also it probably has better battery life.

Used to be that DSL was considered preferable for gaming and cable for downloading. You have higher possibilities for bandwidth w/ cable, but more steady/reliable bandwidth from DSL.

I don't know how true that is anymore though.

the thing for gaming is that you want low latency/ping.

you could think of it like a pipe: a cable pipe is likely bigger, but an adsl water pipe has higher water pressure. the velocity of the water is more important than the total amount of water moved (in this, gaming, scenario)

here's some guy's analysis of his own internet connections: http://jamesthornton.com/writing/cab...l-latency.html

Uhm, I don't own any...I have never sold one video game or system in my life. I cherish those things too much. But I am very close to selling a childhood game of mine...Fireball Island.

Sells for quite the profit...complete sets go for about $300, which mine is obviously since as kids we were very organized and took awesome care of anything we owned.

Just built my new gaming rig, yet I can't figure out what to play. I've spent all day messing around with SC2, New Vegas, and a few other randoms, but I don't want to REPLAY something. I want something NEW that I can totally abuse my sweet new system on. I've only ever played the Mass Effect games on the console and was thinking about replaying them on the comp, but I'm not sure. Any sweet new RPG style games for the computer besides Dragon Age recently?

I am looking for a story-driven game that is good to play on xbox... Does not have to be brand new since I just got my console in October and have been playing a lot of older games. Games I am considering are Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, borderlands, and Left 4 dead. I have played and liked Red Dead, GTA4, and Mass effect 1 and 2... hated Fallout 3... leaning towards Bioshock b/c the demo of Arkham just seemed too easy with the detective mode on, but wanted some feedback before I decide.

arkham is way fun. if its too easy just ramp up the difficulty.. story is good and its a fun sandboxy game

ive heard a lot of good things about bioshock/2 so trying those out is prob good

red dead redemption might be down your alley if u liked gta4.
