thanks in advance
Obduction came out recently by the Miller brothers that made Myst and Riven, I haven't gotten very far but seems like a modern reinterpretation.
Adventure games have gone in a few different directions, but look at the Daedalic publisher's catalogue on Steam for the Deponia series, The Dark Eye series and a few others. Wadjet Eye makes some good more traditional adventure games like Primordia (haven't played the others except the Shivah which was very short but good).
He might like some more mystery and puzzle oriented adventure games like the Frogware developed Sherlock Holmes games (recommend he start with The Testament of Sherlock Holmes), or the Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
Good pure puzzle games are anything by Matthew Brown, particularly Hexcells (and Hexcells Plus and Infinite). People have already mentioned The Witness and Talos Principle, those are both good semi-adventure puzzle games in the same mold, I might add The Room series and maybe Infinifactory. The Witness doesn't really require any dexterity, but Talos Principle does to a certain extent, so I'd look at The Witness first.
Remember the Steam Summer Sale starts tomorrow and lasts usually for a few weeks, most games get a decent discount though less deep as of the last few years.
