We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo - Page 325 - Video Games

I'm doing fine playing FF2 (the PS1 Classic that has FF1+2 remakes) for the first time, but I generally only play 1-2 hours per week while listening to this weekly radio show I listened to while playing games in the summers in high school (mostly just summers because it was on at midnight on the east coast). So it's nostalgia overload (in a good way), it's small doses, and I'm "productive" by listening to an arguably enriching radio program.

You could try podcasts or audio books too.

Can you really listen to a podcast and focus on a game at the same time? Seems like you wouldn't be getting much out of either at that point.

Talking almost exclusively about older games, especially RPGs that require grinding. Not text-heavy games or anything newer with speech etc. I wouldn't play a point-and-click adventure game with something else on.

I also do it with the old NBA Live seasons I play.

I tend to space out a bit on focusing while listening to podcasts, but that's with anything audio and it doesn't matter what I'm doing. Walking, sitting, driving, playing a game - I'm always going to lose chunks where I don't pay attention. That's why I tend to dislike audio books; with most types of podcasts it's usually fine.

I can appreciate them not cranking out mediocre Portal games and milking the franchise to death, but it's been over 6 god damn years, that's more than enough time to produce a high quality follow up.

Nope it was an honest question. I've posted in other threads before (I think the lounge book thread) about listening to a podcast or book on tape and doing some other task and then realizing that I've missed the last 20 minutes of what happened on the podcast.

Seemed like for playing a game that it would be like that constantly, but yeah if you are grinding out some menial task then that makes sense.

Some people like exactly that, they want some background noise they can tune to while something boring happens in their main activity or while they load, or they just want to hear the voice of something for a few hours.

Personally I hate missing parts of a podcast so I won't do that, but I like to space out on some ambiance music while playing or working, so I do understand the allure. Better to have a constant stream of mentally blocked out music than to fall back into reality because the ****ing seagull identifies as a rape wistle.

When I'm playing a game or watching TV I like to just focus on what I'm doing. The exceptions are when I'm subbed to WoW or grinding in a dTCG, I'll throw up South Park, Newsradio, or some other sitcom I've seen before on a second monitor. WoW is basically so mindless that I listened to the entirety of Hardcore History while playing and didn't feel I missed anything in the podcast.

Or something slow like Europa Universalis but in that case I usually just mute the sound and play music.

Got a PS4 Pro in anticipation of Destiny 2, so moved the PS4 regular to the tv room. Played Overcooked with the girlfriend. That is such a fun game! Can play with up to 4 apparently, highly recommend it for gaming with casual gamers / the SO / etc. Really fun and funny and simple, causes hilarious comments, etc. Cannot recommend enough.
