i actually kind of miss writing down passwords. Actually I miss writing down anything in a game, seems like with all the information available on the internet, and auto saving every ounce of progress, we've lost that purity of true achievement.

A valid point. We've all had moments of "omg I'm so confused" turn into moments of "HOLY CRAP YES!!!!"

However, is that worth the moments of "F this game, it's not worth it."?

An interesting subject to debate.

I had all the card game solutions written down for SMB3. Good times.

Also, puzzles which don't actually make sense. I recall in Toonstruck (possibly the most ridic hard game ever) there was a puzzle involving four blue books and four red books you had to pull from a bookshelf in the right order, and it was one of those
"Red 2 should be pulled before Blue 1"
"Blue 3 should be pulled after the book next to it"
"Red 3 should be pulled fourth"
puzzles. Only problem was, the solution didn't ACTUALLY follow all the hints, so I spent a considerable amount of time raging at this until I just went on the net and found the solution

Invisible walls/death barriers too. What's the POINT in stopping people from exploring the levels, seriously?

When you are talking to a character and you keep pressing A to scroll through their dialogue quickly but you press it one too many times and the character starts his whole spiel over again.

OR you push A at the wrong time or twice and you instantly skip over whatever the next line/description was. Usually I know the line probably wasn't consequential, but I restore all the way back anyway to make sure I get it.

-games that require patches within hours of being released and that continue to require patches almost bi-weekly

-Mile High on veteran and COD4 cd's that break way too easily when tossed on a table in disgust.

-any game where your health magically regenerates on its own (unless, I suppose, it's a magic-based game...)

+1 to whoever said that emulsion level on GoW...Nothing pissed me off more than spending 2 minutes to run up to the crossbow guys, then having one of their shots nail me in the back of the neck while I was hiding behind a block of stone.

Any time a game crashes. I've noticed MadWorld doing this a bit, which is odd for a console game.

Games that incorporate car races into a non-racing themed game. I'm going thruogh my roommates old games and started playing Mafia and about 5 or 6 missions in you have to enter and win an auto race. First, if I wanted to play a racing game I would play a nascar game or something like it. Second, the controls are complete crap. Third, if you are going to include a car race mission, dont make it a requirement to pass this stupid mission to go foward with the rest of the game! I'm playing a mafia themed game because I want to shoot people not race them!

Hockey games with no fighting.
Fighting games with lag.
My wii burns through batteries really quickly for some reason.
The common one of impassable random tangents in otherwise easy games (like shooting those meteors in Dead Space that took me and a buddy like an hour).

im replaying GTA4 and just did the mission where you have to drvie a slow truck full of explosives halfway across the map.

seems kinda stupid in a game about fast cars, running people over and getting into cool crashes.

Found and bumping this old thread with a couple...

1. Random platforming/jumping section in a non-platforming game.

You'll be playing some game that is not a platformer at all, in any way, shape, or form, and then randomly they'll be some section where they expect you to platform, and the jumping and the controls and camera are usually super awkward and terrible since the game isn't a ****ing platformer and wasn't optimized for that. If you wanna just throw some random ass platforming into a non-platforming game, you better make damn sure well the cotnrols are at least ok, if not leave that **** out.

2. Random swimming/under water sections

This is somewhat related to #1. Unlike some people I don't mind swimming or underwater portions of games IF THE CONTROLS ARE OK. But many game developers seem dead set on shoehorning in some random swimming into a game even with janky ass controls.

3. Oppressive help/assistance

Many games have this crap now, but thankfully most of them include the ability to turn this **** off. However every now and then you get some bastard game that you can't (looking at you Skyward Sword) or they include an option to turn them off and it only turns SOME of them off, but still leaves a **** ton of them on.

Def. one of 2+2's "WTF?" moments, especially considering that this is your thread!

Well, back in 2009 I don't think I was using subscriptions, so I didn't follow this thread well. And then I saw this thread bumped, I was like WTF, I don't really remember starting this thread, so I reread it all.

The original peeve was actually a good one. I played through Paper Mario for the first time ever last year and ran into that as well. I was like WTF? I can understand games from back then not having a NG+ mode or anything like that, but I don't see any possible reason to have the game essentially "lock up" on the end game screen forcing a reboot. If you don't want to automatically kick them back to the main menu fine, but have like a button press and a confirmation prompt or something.

Here's another pet peeve, doors you can't go in that look exactly like doors you can... I can understand the need to include decorative doors when the setting is a city or a town or **** like that, but doors you can actually enter need to be identifiable from ones you can't. Give them a slightly different border. Have them have a little icon, something.

Any and all shotguns in MP games. Same with blind-fire in games where you can actually aim down the sights. More so with automatic weapons. Also, body shot wizards who combo constantly.

Savepoints/checkpoints that are too far apart
Cheap deaths/scares
Hackers/griefers/toxic community
Half-assed games on release day/hyped games that don't deliver
steam flash sales (double edge sword)
Tutorials/cutscenes that cannot be skipped

And games that hold your hand (mainly Nintendo games)

The worst game I've experienced for:

Savepoints/checkpoints: Turok 2
Hand Holding: Wind Waker
