My roommate and I both had our 360's stolen this past weekend. We already saw through a friend that they had logged onto my roommates xbox live account. I was wondering if it was at all possible to track the location of the address? please helppppppp

Why are u asking us? Call or email microsoft. It's shouldn't be a problem if you can prove that it's yours?

We've already called and the only thing they said was to report it to the police. I'm asking because I'm sure others have been in this situation before and what the best route to take was. But i did just find this..

"Don't let Microsoft screw you around. Of course it can be tracked, it just of course requires the thief to be stupid enough to actually connect your system to their internet connection and access your profile.

It is in Microsoft's best financial interest to ensure that you never get your system back, so that you will go and buy another one (their standard policy is just to disable your system's ability to access XBox Live, which is actually counter-productive if you want to track the thief). After having to deal with low level customer service for a while, I got the predictable manager who gave me the same old lines of that (IP tracking) is impossible to do. So I said I know that is the stock line he is supposed to give people to get them to go away, and he then told me fine he will escalate it to Corporate. Needless to say it turned out that was a flat out lie, because I called back later and spoke with another manager who said these issues never get escalated on their end, it is impossible yadda yadda. In fact we got into a long very heated argument on the issue.

So I ended up making repeated calls directly to the Microsoft Corporate offices(1-425-882-8080) myself. After a couple hours of frustrating automated systems that literally route you to nonexistant lines, and operators that just transfer you back to base level customer service, I managed to get ahold of a new girl who was actually willing to listen to me. After some research on her end, she found me the number for the Microsoft Corporation Security Department (1-425-706-0000). A lovely woman there said of course they can help me track the IP and hooked me up with more info, the Microsoft Online Services Legal Request Hotline (1-425-722-1299, that number is for police department requests, not for civilian customer service) and a fax number for the police to send the subpoena to (1-425-708-0096). Of course the police should include all necessary contact information for both you and them and include your gamertag, system serial number, and any other information they feel would be useful."

I plan on giving that a try tomorrow. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cool. Grats to whoever that person was on getting through what sounds like a customer service nightmare, too.

Tell us how it turns out.

If it wasn't registered you're SOL. Same thing happened to me. They gave me the run around, got info for PD to call them, PD detective after a while of talking to various people said without a registered console nothing can be recorded or given out.

do you mean the xbox registered itself? and not an xbox live account? Even if I don't have it registered I can likely get a receipt from best buy that the xbox was purchased with my credit card at least for a proof of purchase.

yes, I mean the xbox itself registered. If the BB receipt recorded the serial number then I'm sure Microsoft would comply, but from what the detective told me, IP addresses are not even recorded on unregistered consoles.
