Yo! A month ago i started playing CSS again after 10 years of not gaming at all. Problem is now i am kinda addicted and it is starting to affect me to a greater extent. I wanna stop or reduce the amount i am playing by a lot as i feel like it is a complete waste of time (it is). Time i wanna spend doing other things, mostly poker, exercise and other stuff i care about.
Any tips on how to overcome this thing? almost like a drug at this point lol. I remember when i was young i played a lot but it eventually just faded away and i stopped playing all together.

Seek out an addictions specialist. You're not wrong that game addiction is similar to other addictions.

If nothing else, uninstall the game and find something else to do with your time.

Turn off your PC/console and go do other stuff.

Willpower is an amazing thing. Try it some time.

It's a muscle, and it has a finite amount of resources available to it. You can absolutely build it up over time, but small steps helps.

willpower is great but so is boosting dopamine levels like nothing else can lol. I guess just doing other stuff is the key. Maybe start doing drugs instead, feels healthier and more meaningful that shooting games

Start making CSS maps, turn your addiction into something constructive.

i used to spend way too much time playing video games a few years ago. I did have a job but the rest of my waking hours were just spent playing online. Having some entertainment is fine but that was all that I did.

One day I realized that it was a huge waste of time. I'm just avoiding life by doing that and it doesn't actually improve yourself or give you anything lasting.

It took a while to get to that point though but ultimately I just stopped. I still play games but it's generally non-online and I only a game for a month or two and then take a break for a month or two. And when I do play it's usually just an hour or two at a time a few days a week.

You need to find something else in your life because you're just wasting too much of your life playing a game if you are addicted to it. I would just stop cold turkey but with any kind of addiction you really have to want to change yourself. Ten years from now nobody is going to care about your online game exploits. Find something to actually care about.

Go on a gaming bender for 48 hours straight. After that you should be so over CSS you will be able to uninstall and resume life.

petesgotaces is not responsible for any health problems that result.

I found best solution to LoL, CS and similar games that "never end" to just uninstall. Otherwise you decide to play one, then might as well play another and then one more...

I read the first line and was thinking "do drugs".

In seriousness: don't do drugs, playing video games all day is far better, trust me.

WRT your question; do some other stuff you like, force yourself to do other stuff than play all day, go out on the weekends, get a GF, whatever RL thing you like to do

I was way better off when i was doing a lot of drugs all the time lol

But in all seriousness, It only takes 30 mins to re install. I guess just forcing myself to play less and less is gonna be the best way.

I play poker tournaments when I am not playing CSS so thats mainly why its a big issue. Mid session i just get such a lust to play CSS that i stop loading tournaments and sometimes even punt my last ones which cost me $$$$.

I will try forcing myself to play very little. If that doesnt work i will play some 20 hour CSS session and then i might just get sick of it and think of gaming as something that makes me feel like ****

Uninstalling works reasonably well for me. Just got rid of everything I was playing as I've got assignments to finish and exams to study for. Joining a sports club or something similar might help as well. Don't even start playing an MMO or similar as they're massive time sinks. I've avoided the Football Manager games for this reason. They go on and on and on indefinitely.

Do something to break the daily habit. When I was playing online games I went on a vacation and travelled for a week or so without my computer, and when I got home I found I had lost the desire to log in.

Just dont play if you dont want to for ****s sake. If people can quit heroin after mainlining for five years Im pretty sure you can suffer through the horrific nightmare of going to a movie one night instead of playing call of duty.

Doing drugs and playing videogames is pretty much nirvana.

Edit: over a year sober and wish I wasn't

Figure out what hole that gaming is filling in your life and fill something more productive with it.

What worked for me is pre-paying to do something else. Crossfit lessons, cooking classes and so on. Once I got in a habit of planning my life around such activities, it was impossible to think about sitting down for an epic WoW or EU4 session to grind achievements.

I like to get so stoned that i CAN'T play any games. It's a real chore just getting a chip into my mouth in times like that.

here's the truth.

nothing you do matters. you are here for awhile, and then you are dead. so you can play less video games to read more books, watch more tv, go out more, etc.

just do what makes you happy
