Just finished the Bloody Baron quest-line, ending with:

Was a little nervous as the last big sandbox RPG I played was Skyrim on PS3 which was a mess.

Been playing on PS4 though and it runs super smooth, looks gorgeous and load times are very quick.

I run it on PS4. Load times after dying can be a little annoying, but other than that no problems at all.

Load times after death become really long once you get to Velen. Probably the biggest annoyance I have with the game.

Definitely makes me be more careful that's for sure. So, I guess that's a side benefit.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

This game is straight up absurd in terms of how much content it packs in and the quality of that content. Side quests are just great.

Am slightly irked (very slightly) by some of the dumbing down. Preferred how you had to work harder for potions in W2, dont like the constant meditating for one hour to restock potions.

Also drinking Cat in W2 was awesome with the way it showed the veins of monsters etc, wish they had left that in.

Just can't get into this game. 6 hours in and at the second zone and I am just bored. End up quitting after 15 minutes which sucks as I thought I would love it

Are most of you guys playing on a PC or console? Finally have some time to spend on this game and trying to decide which format to go with. I normally default to PC for RPGs but thought I'd solicit some opinions here first before picking it up.

PC with a controller is the way to go.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

For whoever asked about the console version, it's taking 10-30 seconds for people to pop into existence in Velen. It gets worse the more I uncover.

I haven't updated since buying from wal-mart though so don't know if that'll fix the problem

The game looks amazing on PC if you have the rig (970 gtx+) to max nearly everything at 60 fps, not to mention super fast load times.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

Also if you're on PC, check out Durante's article on it. Disabling the frame-limiter and vsync in game and using Rivatuner as a framerate limiter got rid of all the microstuttering, game runs like butter at 60 fps with everything but shadows maxed for me on a 970.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

Dont have everything maxed and game still looks amazing and runs smooth, have had no stutter issues. The lighting and weather effects in this game are simply awe inspiring.

Anyone else playing with POI markers and enemy health bars turned off?

I find this really helps with immersion, its much more satisfying finding POI on your own just exploring, and just get a more granular realistic feel from not having any health bars on monsters.

Also PC, looks better + MODS.

Mods gonna be potentially serious business for this game.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

Problem with POI's off is that you have no way of knowing which areas you've already explored since the whole map is revealed from the start. I'm not a fan of going from marker to marker to find explore new areas but without a fog of war feature there's not much else you can do if you want to find everything.

When you find a POI it stays on the map tho, as do other markers that do not start on the map.

However much I might lose in not finding every single POI I get more back by not having the third wall breaking POI markers on.

Greatly increases immersion as there is not a third wall breaking marker that is basically shouting "YOU ARE PLAYING A VIDEO GAME" straight in your face like a drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket.

When you find a POI without markers it is also very satisfying and has a real ah ha moment. They could have made discovery more organic using in game lore such as witcher senses/medallion etc.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

I only have an i5-2500K @ 3.30 GHz (but adds on 3.60 GHz after that when I view in my computer info???)

8 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Is this going to run well enough on my machine ? Skyrim on Ultra runs flawless but I haven't really bought a game since then (and that's actually what I build the machine to play)

Guess we're going to find out! I bought it from gog instead of Steam to suppport the dev more directly? At least that's why I got it from gog. I don't know if that's correct or not.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

Pardon the spam Just played for like an hour or so. Runs really well considering I'm at the bare minimum of what they call "minimum recommended". I guess it's not like the old days where the minimum was truly the bare minimum to even run the game AT ALL. I know the default settings it applied to itself aren't pushed up to max and I'll play around with the detail levels later on, but it runs pretty damn well.

I have to say, the controls seem a little clunky. I don't console-game much, so using an Xbox controller on my PC feels weird, and I'm sure it doesn't help that the only controller-based games I've played in the last 5 years has been Dark Souls....getting used to using buttons instead of triggers to attack and stuff is going to take a minute to establish themselves as correct.

If there were cool locations to explore I'd be more on board, but you're only ever going to come across monster nests, bandit camps, and some underwhelmimg treasure chests. There's nothing really unique or awe inspiring about coming across them randomly. It simply doesn't compare to a Fallout or Elder Scrolls title for example, where everything in the world is unique and meant to be explored thoroughly. I LOVE TW3, but the depth of the exploration is pretty nonexistant, and their decision to show players undisovered locations by default speaks largely to that.

That said, the game ends up becoming really easy even on Death March at around Level 10. Discovering all the places of power isn't necessary and missing out on some loot from monsters and bandits won't hurt you much in the long run. Sacrificing those things for immersion is totally fine if that's what you prefer.

Re: There's no WITCHER 3 thread?

Well you seem underwhelmed by the POI, which to my mind is because you are just checking markers off the map. If you find exploration meh, then turning off POI will help that alot imo.

When you are exploring the map, the locations of the POI are cool in and of themselves. I found a place of power on top of a mountain, the cool part was deciding to look up the mountain, the journey up the mountain, the view from the mountain etc, the place of power was a nice bonus, it felt like a small reward for bothering to explore. When you have POI on, the actual sense of exploration is massively neutered as you know something is there, its effectively pre-explored.

Also I think you under sell the POI. Some of the guarded treasures have some cool monsters guarding them, there are some cool bandit camps and abandoned locations and I have found several quests with cut scenes at POI locations. Going to the coast just to have a look and finding pirates and wrecks and cutting across a swap and finding a fiend is intrinsically much more rewarding than just going to point X because the hud says something is there.
