I remember that being a consistent problem throughout most of the game, though more with you being in a level appropriate area but having several much higher level monsters or a nearby area that's at a much different level. If you enjoy exploring and not being guided around in a somewhat linear fashion that's not a problem, but I think they could have done a much better job there.

I don't mind exploration, but I'd hate to check these areas every let's say 3 levels, I can't make a note on a map (where'd like to type let's say 'level 14 ghost')

I think the map icon depended on the level of the monster? Might be wrong though.

Map icon is based on the type of encounter, not difficulty. Although I do remember some sort of skull so maybe there is a warning indicator for discovered, tough areas.

Either way, I think the map is pretty well designed so that the nearby quests are level appropriate. There are definitely a few tough spots in Velen that are intended for you to revisit later, but most of it is quite easy. The real problem there is that there is a low-level quest to

that requires you to walk through the most difficult part of Velen to complete.

I love how it seems like every side quest and character seems to have something interesting about them.

I'm not sure if I got sensitive as a dad on family matters but during the quest with Bloody Baron and poroniec (not sure if it's the english name) I was torn between "WTF" and "damn this quest is touching".

Yeh a common complaint is that a lot of quests are all very similar, in that you just follow the witcher senses things around.

However, I thought every quest, even the minor ones, were so well written, and had such great characters in them, it really didn't bother me. Also little things like helping someone in a quest, and then having him appear later in the game.

I think there are some serious issues with this story:

Spoiler:
A likely all- or nearly all-male team writes a story about domestic violence that is not just told from the guy's perspective, but essentially exclusively so. Hell, when you do meet his wife she's gone totally bonkers, which serves a minor plot function at best and prevents the player from ever seeing any pushback against the Baron's viewpoint except for Geralt's occasional "you're a real piece of ****."

That said, the story is more nuanced than most domestic violence stories in media. It just seems like a huge missed opportunity for what is otherwise a great writing team, and probably pissed off a lot of women who played the game.
