Is there any way of telling which lootable objects will trigger guards kicking your ass? Seems like most of them are fine, but every now and then it'll trigger hell.

And I had to run for like 5 minutes to shake them, they take their jobs seriously.

Not sure. I might be remembering wrong, but I didn't really think there was much worth 'stealing' anyway. Valuable stuff comes from the ?'s and/or killing things.

I just assumed it was related to vision, not any particular items. But yeah, I definitely don't go looting every crate I see.

They don't like it if you go around casting signs, even if you don't hit anyone.

Actually found a decent way of telling, if you start to loot something and the prompt comes up, nearby guards will react, all turning towards you and saying ominous things, if you cancel the loot prompt and don't take anything you're fine. Can be useful if you are in cities with guards all over the place and still wanna loot stuff.

Of course 99% of everything you loot is junk, but I like looting not only cuz it's a good source of gold but also it's a useful way of reminding if you've explored a particular area pretty well or not.

Often times in these big open world games getting stuck in or on something can be an issue, especially in a game like this where the world is so huge and the terrain so varied.

Well, it took 60 hours of playing but I finally managed to get stuck and then to top it off I got stuck again about 30 minutes later.

Both situations kinda the same, basically getting stuck in a deep puddle of water. You go into "swim" mode and can't jump out or grab a ledge. The first was in a WASH TUB south of the city and the 2nd was just in a swampy area.

Yeh the water thing can be a pain. I also found getting treasure from inside underwater wrecks super tilting.

Yeah that was the only time I had to reset due to bug since I just got stuck inside a ship. It is also sometimes very hard to get through the cranks to or from the ship.

I pretty much gave up on stuff like that after I got super mad when I accidently quicksaved while in a ship. After about 20x drowning, I had to go way back to my last save.

I picked this up over the weekend for $50 for the game and both expansions. Seemed like a pretty good deal. I have heard a lot of good things about this game and after about 4-5 hours of play I already like it a lot.

Moving around seems a little clunky but I think I can get used to that. The characters have a lot of personality which I like.

Yeah there is also an alternative movement option which you can turn on, it was patched in later apparently. I def. prefer it to the original movement style. The new way is less 'realistic' but more responsive and more what you're used to in a video game. Like the original way they tried to account for inertia and momentum in the movement, but it just makes it feel unresponsive since typically in a video game you want your character to do immediately what you tell it to do.

My combat consists of a lot of rolling to dodge then spamming my sword. Throw a fire spell in here or there and eat enough food to keep me up. I actually feel kind of squishy. Just got my first gear upgrade though - a magic sword so that's cool.

Rolling around is good against bigger monsters. I'd recommend using more sidestep dodge and parrying when you fight humans.

I mainly use 3 signs:

Quen whenever I can
Yrden when fighting Wraths
Axii when fighting vs shield users.

I only use Igni besides the odd Aard to knock through walls.

i think quen is a little OP when you get it to where you heal whenever someone attacks you

I'm playing on Blood and Broken Bones and ya you lean on Quen heavily, especially early on when everything can kill you in just a few hits.

I use Quen for major named monsters that can down you with a couple of hits, Igni for groups of humans or animals, Yrden for wraiths, and Axii for solo shield bearers. Axii also good for anything that files as it'll knock them to the ground for easy stabbing.

I keep Swallow and any of the 10 sec revive foods in the ready positions (up and down on thumb pad on PS4).

I just use counterattack on shield bearers and the crossbow for flying enemies.

For potions I keep Swallow and White Rafford's Decoction on hotkeys.

I find the combat extremely forgiving in this game in general. The enemies are not that aggressive, give you plenty of time to dodge, as long as you concentrate on not getting surrounded you're completely fine.

That's one reason I'm playing on hard (Blood and Broken Bones) because I read beforehand that the game got pretty easy so if you wanted any sort of challenge at all to play it on hard or higher.

Open world games and many RPG's aren't really typically all that difficult anyway though, it's more about exploring the world and the story and building your character.

Someone else mentioned it, but the sidestep dodge is the way to go. It doesn't drain stamina and once you get the timing down you become extremely hard to hit unless you get caught surrounded by a bunch of enemies. Even when facing groups, it can be pretty easy to keep all of them in front of you which lets you pick your spots for either spells or attacks.

I never thought there would be a horse more infuriating than the one in Red Dead Redemption but here we are.

It's probably a very difficult balance to achieve, trying to keep the movement realistic but also fluid and not aggravating. With Witcher 3's extremely varied terrain makes it even harder (in Red Dead it was mostly desserts and open spaces).

I understand you can't have the horse going through trees and boulders and stuff, but even still.

I personally think they should have tilted things a little more to making the movement more fluid rather than realistic. Having the horse constantly pulling up or stopping thanks to a random tree stump or small dip in the terrain and stuff, ugh... you gotta like awkwardly maneuver around it to get up to full speed again.

That gif pretty much nails it.
