Btw, you should do all side quests related to people you know (like Last Wish, Triss questline, The Fall of the House of Reardon, Keira's quests, A Deadly Plot) before starting Ugly Baby since it automatically fails few of them if you haven't done them yet. It also unlocks traveling to Kaen Morhen for you (which you need for Wolf School Gear)

If I miss something and want to go back is there any issue doing this while you progress in the story? Let's say I found out I missed something in White Orchard for example. I am halfway through the story (I'm not but just for an example). Can I still travel back there or will areas not be accessible once you progress to a certain point?

White Orchid will always be available, even after you finish the game. Just go to fast travel point, open world map (on PC with SPACE) and double click a fast travel point there. I don't think there are any areas in the game you can't revisit.

By way of comparison, I find this game way more enjoyable than Dragon Age Inquisition and Elder Scrolls Online.

I'm also really enjoying the combat as I get better at it. Even though I've done it hundreds of times, it's still awesome to chop a guys head off.

The combat mechanics are good for an RPG, but you rapidly become OP once you hit Level 10 or so and then the game ceases to be a challenge at quests near your level. Aside from that the game is near flawless, but that's a pretty significant flaw to have and has caused me to lose a little bit of interest in finishing it.

I know I am early on but is my equipment supposed to be falling apart so easily? I have a couple of repair kits but that wasn't enough to go through one of the early quests. I'm wondering if I just need to travel all around and stock up a lot? Also is there not much gold in the world when killing things and the best way to get gold is to just sell items? It seems (early at least) that you don't get gold for killing enemies or bosses or if you do it is very little.

It seems like the crafting is overwhelming so far with no idea where to find items but maybe I'll just hold off and start looking at crafting mid way through the game after I have collected enough items.

Only items worth crafting are the green witcher school gear. Cat is imo superior since it is the only light armor. You get ton of money from selling weapons and armor, you just need to sell items to people who deal in those items, ie. weapons, armors to blacksmiths, food & junk to innkeepers. Also feel free to sell all books and notes after you have read them once. I never ran out of money and always bought anything I wanted, I did loot pretty much everything though. Just make a habit of repairing your stuff every time you visit a blacksmith.

Thanks, now all I need (for now is to find a new sword or two). I'm at level 6 still using the original silver sword and a level 2 other sword. I think I just need to sort of venture out in areas that look like they have towns vs just doing quest missions. The barons quest sort of jacked me up with the wraiths while he carries the baby. I even did the other method of trying to kill the beast and got it 3/4 down but I don't do a ton of damage so it takes a while. I will say the shield spell is just monstrous with helping out in a lot of fights.

Just check some of the ?-marks in map, especially the ones in water are really easy loot. You can use crossbow under water to 1-shot Drowners.

Money is scarce very early on in the game but then becomes really easy to get as you progress. I'm Level 16 or so and have 15k gold right now and that's only after selling equipment and excess items. I probably have $10-20k in things that I could sell out of my inventory if I needed to.

Stock up on weapon and armor repair kits when visiting blacksmiths and armorers and you'll never really have any issues with degrading equipment. It's even cheaper in most cases to have them repair your gear personally but again, money ceases to become an issue pretty quickly so it doesn't matter much.

Yeah I think I was trying to do too many main/side quests in a row before visiting blacksmiths to get them repaired (and to buy kits). The early swords do seem to fall apart easier.

On a bright note I did craft the viper silver sword and found a regular sword that is level 6 required so my swords are totally meh now that I just bumped to level 8. I also crafted a couple of armors since I had literally only found a few armor pieces that were all junk. Having just now finished the Bloody Baron quest I thought I would have found a bit more, but I really haven't gone out and hit a ton of question mark/town areas. I should probably spend a full day or 2 just hitting random areas gathering items and completing side quest stuff. At least I finally got laid last night for the first time in the game lol.

Finished it at 146 hours (all sidequests I could find, some missing witcher gear and a lot of questionmarks left).

Amazing game in every way.

I've finally got a decent gaming desktop coming in a few days, something I've had my eye on for a long time and this game really helped me pull the trigger.

Thoughts on playing through 1 + 2 first, or just jumping straight into III?

1/2 Dont hold up that well ( combat systems ), just go straight for 3.

loving the game so far. however, i'm playing on blood & broken bones and just hit level 13. game seems a bit too easy already.

should i bump it up to death march in your opinion?

(this would unfortunately invalidate by B&BB completion trophy [playing on PS4]...wouldn't it?)

I guess it depends what you want out of your playthrough. The game does get easier as it progresses, especially if you complete most side quests.

Started recently on death march, quite entertaining so far.
Find it hard to keep stocked with food and stuff to keep vitality up. And then find it impossible so far to keep up with levels.

Been constantly running 2-3 levels below quests and not sure if there is a feasible way to catch up as slaying random monsters seem to yield next to no XP while costing me dough for vitality replenishments.
FWIW, I just hit level 4 after completing one or two Velen quest sections (finding that dude and one other thingy).

One question: Having had POI turned off, I couldn't seem to find the locations for mission board quests. Am I just missing something? Would prefer to turn it back off again, but then I'd fall even further behind in XP.

I just upped it to Death March. Was just too easy given I take time to optimize gear, as well as using Quen and Axii a lot in all combat situations.

Question about PS4 version: will I still get the B&BB completion trophy now that I've upped the difficulty to DM? Or will I simply get nothing at all?

Finally completed it after 115 hours. I was looking forward to a bit of a change in game but just saw that the DLC is released tomorrow, and those new gwent cards aren't going to collect themselves!

about 4 hours into this game, it's the ****

the supposedly bad combat doesn't bother me at all considering my favorite games are all the elder scrolls games and the combat in those is way worse

Just finished FO4 and decided this is the next game I should sink some time into. Have never played any of the previous releases so any advice for a beginner (for the series not RPGs in general)

Play the previous games :P

1 ties into 2 and 2 ties into 3. Many of the storylines and decisions are much more impactful when the guy you are throwing under the dragon saved your life in previous game.

just finished up the game. says 6 days and 12 hours of game play and i don't leave it on too often. would guess 100+ is accurate which is great bang for the buck obv

anyway think it was a fantastic game def one of my all time favorites spoilers on some minor nitpicks

Spoiler:
this was my fault i'm sure but the ending boss guy and entire last quest (plus battle of kal morhan or whatever it's called were super underwhelming and a bummer.) i played it about 3 levels above the suggested most of the game and ended at 35 because i like exploring and whatnot. bad idea. i know many have made the same complaint that the game is kind of easy after like level 15 and i generally agree. seems like a difficult thing for the developers because i know everyone (including myself) really complained about oblivion for just leveling up ~every opponent too your level. just kind of sucked having random fiends be harder than the final bosses. caveat- i am NOT a hardcore gamer at all and pretty much always play on normal with rare exceptions. i could have probably alleviated this by just putting it on a higher difficulty. in fact i really regret not doing that now but i'm no dark souls guy who is great at video games. frankly i struggled with the new dragon age quite a bit early on ha

My other minor complaint is that I have almost zero desire to play this after beating the main quest which is usually not true when it comes to the elder scrolls games. they usually still had guild quests i hadn't done or just exploring and finding some random ass villain in a cavern was awesome. don't rly see that here i don't have much interest in more witcher contracts or 1 off secondary quests and almost all of them at lower levels that are not gonna be very fun

i'll prob get the expansion ASAP I could def use 10 more hours of gameplay. looking forward to the newer and bigger one later this year too. i got the NEGATIVE ending apparently after doing some research which sucks. feels bad man i guess i should have gone and saw that idiot's grave with ciri. now i'm sad. romanced triss because lol yennifer what a bitch

also i played literally 1 game of gwent and that was it. just didn't care that much. i know that's an unpopular play. maybe i'll get good at that
