Played about 3 hours on ps4

Overall I'm impressed. As an elder scrolls lover who has never played witcher it seems familiar enough.

The combat is a little wonky but
That's probably me being terrible.

Feels like 150 hour game to me.

Man am I crazy but did the tutorial camera only have two angles up/down wise when using R3? (PS4)

Was tilting me so hard but feel like it was 100% intentional troll now and I love it.

Game is super impressive.

And now I'll have no life for 3 months.
This game is the *****.

You can use axii sign on your horse to lower it's fear level while fighting.

There's no way they end the franchise...
Yes gamers are mostly dudes- and yes don't like playing heroines- but I do hope they continue the games like the books and follow ciri...wonder when she becomes playable in this game.clearly she will mutilate some mofos.

Every quest I have done so far was awesome.
I'm still in the first area and there's so much stuff to do!
Spoiler:
6 hours in and I haven't fought the griffin yet

And apparently the first area is tiny compared to the other areas. I read a post by someone elsewhere that said they counted at least fifteen notice boards in the second area. They said there were missions ranging from level 5-33 at the first one they visited. This game is going to last forever.

I feel all the fighting is kinda choppy. Lots of swinging and praying vs level 5 things when I'm a level 2.

You have to dodge and parry and roll around and side step.
also aggression increases adrenaline which increases damage.
Also use the environment- like ignite the swamp gas on fire with aard sign to torch beasties.

Anyone kill a town duck yet?

After the Skyrim chicken I have the yips.

I've killed geese, roosters, a hen and a cat (got caught up in a bomb attack on a group of geese).

Anyone tell me how this compares to Dark Souls, and I guess Dark Souls II on PS4?

Loved DS and how it worked, and hoping for something with a similar difficulty here.

You're not going to find anything close to DS-level difficulty in a Witcher title.

Any bugs? I'm almost done with Witcher 2 after marathoning both games but feeling a bit burned out, I'll probably hold out until the 970s come down in price and the game gets some patches in, but you never know. Looks sick.

Yeah get Bloodborne if you haven't played it yet obv. Witcher is a completely different game.

Too busy playing to spend time reviewing the game but I have to say it absolutely blows Skyrim out of the water so far. So good.

My only criticism so far is a pretty common one for me with these games - I get claustrophobic from how close up the camera is to Geralt.

I've never understood why having such a big part of the character taking up your view is so popular with so many 3d person games. Either do first person or put the camera far enough back so you don't feel like you're a monkey clinging to the guys back.

I found Dead space completely unplayable because of this and found Arkham Asylum to be a much worse experience than it should have been. Hopefully there'll be a way to fix it for W3.

Couple tips I ran across. 1 Alcoholest refills all your potions every time you meditate, if you use 1 charge of 1 potion or 30 charges overall it doesn't matter. While falling If you press jump again as you hit the ground you roll mitigating a bunch of dmg.

Sounds like dell is gonna make me wait weeks to get my copy of this. I may just end up buying a hard copy from best buy and selling the nvidia key. Dying to play this

Not to derail the thread but one of the main concepts of Dead Space was the horror/scare aspect to which up close the action jumps out at you a lot more than if you had the camera from a distance like you mentioned. The game was meant for tight quarters with panic type of action which is part of the reason the whole series was such a huge hit (on top of the actual being out in space and not being able to breathe while running from aliens awesomeness).

I'll have to keep checking back here...sounds like this is potentially a great game.

I'm not going to say that it's objectively bad - obviously the DS games are hugely popular and I'm not going to claim I'm right and everyone else is wrong.

It's very much not for me though and I would speculate that a first person view would work just as well for the up close and scary-bits of DS (though that probably wouldn't work that well for consoles which I would speculate is why they brought the camera so close but still kept the third person view).

Both first and 3d person have their advantages. Games like the witcher work really well in 3d person if only because there's not much point in having awesome battlescenes if you can't watch how awesome you are when you're in them.

Games that move too close lose a lot of the whole point of 3rd person imo - you're losing the overview and scene when fighting and it just feels so damned cramped.

I'm not a hugger - I need my personal space.

Thanks for this, kept dying from ridic low heights just trying to explore.

I love this game, my only gripe is the controls feel awkward on PS4, like its way too easy to accidentally use a potion and its hard to focus on a particular item to register its action. I imagine thats pretty local to the console version though.

The GTA style movement is really disappointing. It's really hard to be precise when trying to pick up loot, talk to someone, mount your horse, etc. I'll also never understand why they insist on having Geralt move five feet forward with every attack. If I want to move forward when I attack, I have a stick for that.

Other than that, the game is amazing. I can't believe the number of different characters that I've spoken to already. It looks and runs fantastic as well. The load times are pretty much nonexistent.

So I really want to get a Ps4 for this and Bloodborne. What's the best bundle around right now? I don't mind getting a used console if it's going to save a decent amount of money.
