Star Wars: The Old Republic Officially Announced.

Have to say I'd have strongly preferred a KOTOR III Single player game, but as far as MMOs go this might be cool. They claim the game will have more content than every game they've ever made combined. They also claim they're trying to make it as story driven as possible, which if anyone can pull off it's probably them.

Anyhow, hopefully it's not super-grindy but since it's Star Wars + Bioware I'm already pretty committed to giving it a shot.

I would've much rather had a kotor III as well. The only way I'm paying for this game is if it gets rave reviews.

I don't see how a game like this couldn't be a massive grind fest. MMOs make money based on how long the average user plays. Without some really revolutionary development (which is not going to happen in a game from a major company which a huge investment in it, like this one) I don't see how any MMO could be anything but a repetitious grindfest.

I also can't help but notice how cliche Bioware has become. They're an awesome developer, EA buys them what immediately follows:

1. Yeah, you guys make RPGs right? Ok, so here's the deal. You're gonna make an RPG, but the main character is gonna be Sonic the Hedgehog - AND it's going to be on the DS. Awesome, amirite?

2. Yeah yeah, good job with that Sonic game guys. Ok here's the deal now. That Knights of the Old Republic game was real popular... so here's the deal. You're gonna make a sequel, but it's going to be MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER - and we'll charge like $20/month to play it. OMG, amazing amirite???

Countdown to Mass Effect 2 on the PS2 and Baldur's Gate 3: the first person shooter.

KOTOR II was just plain kickass as a DS force user...if you went Consular>>Sith Lord, or even Sentinel>>Sith Lord, you could just rack up so many Force Points that it was silly. I could literally stand there and spam Force Lightning in enemy-heavy areas for ten minutes straight before running out. course i never needed that long because i had so many points that my Lightning would decimate everyone in thirty seconds flat.

Occasionally its nice to just ignore Force powers for a runthrough...just use blades and medpacs...takes a lot more resourcefulness...

Im pretty gunshy about any StarWars titles now, since TFU was such a let down. Never played the KOTOR series.

I believe kotor2 was obsidian and not bioware. It felt more like an expansion than a sequel tbh, they stuck to the same formula used in kotor1.

Ive been told good and bad about them. If it's cheap at gamestop I might pick KOTOR 1 up.

I liked baulder's gate and Jade Empire... Havent played Mass Effect....it looked like a Halo RPG to me.....I'll check it out one of these days.

Is Bioware going to use a new engine for this though? They've been using the same one since KOTOR according to wiki. It says they have a new one in the works... but I wonder if this is going to be used in this game.

Am I the only person who almost never leveled up unless they were about to die? It's pretty dope to start boss battles knowing you can regain full health 4 or 5 times if needed.

Yeah Obsidian made KotOR 2, while BioWare made the first. I just hope the new game Old Republic is only on 360.
