I'm pushing 800+ hours across xbox/pc. Confirmed terrible. Peaked at challenger elite.

I seem to be stuck at rising star as well, had a brief few weeks at shooting star, followed by a few weeks at challenger elite (wasn't sure what's up). I think it's also important how much you actually practice every week, if you take breaks or play just every a few days your skill probably gets stale. I'd think in order to improve you need probably consistent everyday play (even if it's 30 minutes) and probably some training

Definitely. Especially the training part. Practicing aerials regularly improved my overall game considerably.

What camera angle are you guys using? My biggest problem the last few hundred hours has been feeling like i never know how far away people are, either staying back when I should be contesting or contesting when I shouldn't, or under judging how high the ball will be when I try to contest. I just switched my angle from -8 to -11 and it seems to be making a huge difference. I suppose a comfortable angle is also a factor of your fov and camera height (106 and 90), but things just seem less cramped and I can't belive I went like 7-800 hours without messing with my camera settings again.

Seems like wider FOV would hurt your ability to estimate ball height, yeah? I've never liked watching people play with huge FOVs, think mine is still just 90.

mine are

camera angle: -5
fov: 100
height: 100
distance: 240

havent changed it since like 200 hours

I find when I started to get a lot better was when I started mentally tracking where everyone is in my head and what the possible outcomes of going for it vs. not were. Not that saying that will help you, but a lot of it is just knowing where I should be positioned off ball on offense and defense and where I can and can't go for it - and then if I'm going to hit it what's going to happen depending on where I hit it. It's slowing down the game, if that makes any sense - if you're always having gut reactions about where to be and when to go for it, it's going to betray you a lot of the time if you you're not like Kronovi or whatever. I grew up playing a ton of sportsball so that's how I approach playing this game.

Settings:

FOV: 102
Distance: 330
Height: 100
Angle: -5
Stiffness: 0
Swivel: 2.5

Yeah, same. Like, when I'm playing with weev, I know that when the ball pops way up in the air he's gonna go for it and I'd better get back on defense.

Only real tip you need is to make sure you can hit all the major buttons together at once (forward, boost, jump, air-roll/handbrake), with your controller setup so you don't have to relearn something after 2-300 hours. Most people seem to like putting air-roll and handbrake together on the top L bumper instead of X. Everything else comes pretty naturally until you get a lot of hours in.

This is what frustrates me about one of the guys I play with. He always charges at the wrong time, leading to an easy break away or messing up someone with a better angle.

If you're going from the wall to the middle or turning around there's most likely someone behind you lining up a good shot.

Now a 3v3 strategy question. Seems to me like most people are good at stopping crosses from the corner. Is passing from the offensive corner to the mid/gk a viable strategy or too difficult to execute consistently?

What's up with the way you get promoted?

Playing 3v3 one friend is Rising Star and I am Challenger Elite. We both get to Level 5 after the same match. Win a couple more and he gets promoted to Shooting Star while I stay Challenger Elite. Obviously lose the next few and I'm never getting those wheels.
