I've been playing 7 straight hours trying to get rising star before the update and I finally did it. Those wheels are mine baby.

Played a game of dropshot thinking "there's no way this can be any fun".

Still thinking that.

Shocking to me that a game like this still has so many consistent server issues even on the PC side.

Just hit legend rank today, and I just checked that I bought the game exactly one year ago on 24th April 493 hours, what a great ride it's been! I decided to play more duels this season and it definitely helps in many skills I previously lacked, mainly ball control.

I just crossed 1k hours on PC. Silver for life yo

Have actually felt like I finally turned a corner last 50ish hours though. Something has finally seemed to click

I think it's quite normal actually, there's quite a lot of stagnation that you have to endure then all of sudden you play like a superstar for 20 hours, it's a great feeling, just shows that practice makes perfect indeed.

Sometimes I try duel for the reasons you mentioned but it's hard to stick with it for me, mostly because the penalty for ****ing up in duel is so, so harsh (whiff a ball and, like, 80% of the time it's a goal against). It's hard to go all out and practice stuff you're bad at in 1v1 if it means you're gonna just lose a crapton of games in the process.

Yeah, duels require totally different tactic than one'd think, I think I actually began to like them, it seems rather fair actually. The penalty for ****ing up is the same for both sides. And I do lose quite a significant number of games against 'less skilled' opponents sure but I blame the tactic then and my performance and I seem to take lessons from that.

Pretty much all I play is duel. It's a completely different game, way more cat and mouse. Half the time I just let the ball roll and force my opponent to make the decision to rush the ball and risk getting chipped or hang back in net and play goal as I slowly bring it up. My regular game is terrible, I can't aerial for ****, it's just all tactics

Another vote for the "it all starts to click" - my aerial game is coming around quite a bit, but there's still overcoming the instinct to wait for the ball to come down rather than having the instinct to go up for it. Changing some controller bindings helped a lot.

However, the real improvement in my game is in my car design. Pink painted endo, with pink paint, pink loopers, the heart aerial, a pink bow on top, and the hearts rocket trail. It almost never fails to get a comment.

What gets me about duel is not so much the penalty for whiffing, but the consequence of a mistimed 50/50. So many goals are scored because both players went up for the ball and the resulting bounce gave somebody an open net. There's a major skill in positioning your car in those situations, but it's incredibly frustrating to be on the wrong end of those spots. I just avoid duel altogether if I can help it.

1v1 is for losers.

I feel like rankings still aren't good enough. One night I get people who completely whiff on multiple saves then the next night I'm getting dunked on from across the map. Yet they are ranked the same.
