AC Brotherhood- 8/10

I was never a 'fan' of the ass creed franchise until recently, the first game was just awful! It was the most linear and dull initial game I'd played amongst the current generation so I avoided the following games for a good while. Im happy to say though that I was utterly wrong.

Whilst 2 was great with the introduction of Ezio and a small fleshing out of Desmond, Brotherhood is where I feel the franchise shines thus far! Excellent mechanics, engaging story and fine graphics helped makes this game truely enjoyable.

Its not perfect though as few games are. There is plenty of needless tasks and the story is rather slow to start but once it does - you're hooked. Rome is a fine setting and far more dynamic that the other cities from the previous game. Also, the final sequence could have done with a bit more content along with Cesere being a tougher confrontation but you can't have everything.

Im tearing through Revelations atm so once that put to bed, Ill write up that.

It's the PS2 game with updated graphics but still very fun! The story is interesting. I really like how basically no-one is a good guy, including the main character. The levels are varied and interesting, the puzzles intergrate well into the story and don't feel too forced, and the boss battles feel suitably momentous.

There are some awkward control issues, it's not always clear where to go, and it would have been nice if they had updated the cutscenes as well, but if you haven't played it you'll probably like it!

I bought the double pack which comes with GOD II as well, which I'll get to soon.

Excellent games, even the mobile phone one, betrayal, is class. Why can more historically set games be up to this level?

Fall Out 3 (Xbox360) 7/10

It does so many things well. A fresh setting, interesting art direction , good voice acting and a world rich in incidental detail. Sadly the actual gameplay doesn’t live up to the presentation. Too much of the games a relentless grind of combat that doesn’t know what it’s supposed to be and plays as a poor FPS and a broken TRPG. It’s an RPG with virtually no puzzles beyond hacking terminals an unforgivable omission and the difficulty curve is all over the place it’s ridiculously hard at the start then becomes trivially easy shortly before the end.
The story wasn’t bad but the pacing seamed off it sped up towards the end like it was in a rush to finish and oddly most of the locations where crowded into one corner of the map.

Ps in hindsight id have given Zelda SS an extra half point.

Silent Hill 1 for the 5th time. If you need a review then you should move from the rock you have been living under for 13 years.

Why even post in the thread then?

As I was writing it I thought "What's the point in a review, if you haven't played it already then you're unlikely to now".

I'll give it 9/10 if that'll make you happy.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (Nintendo DS)

It's an adventure game/"visual novel". There is a lot of reading. For the first few hours I liked it a lot, but eventually the reading grated on me. Not just reading, but the fact that you have to read at a specific pace. The text scrolls at a slow speed and there is no button to speed it up your first time through. This is a problem.

It's been a few weeks since I finished it, and I like it slightly better now in retrospect than I did then. You tend to forget the dull parts. As an adventure game (point and click style) it's not bad. Sort of a noir storyline. There were startling revelations at the end although I've already forgotten what they were.

I give it somewhere around a 6/10. Probably worth playing if you're a fan of the genre and can deal with slow text.

I don't think the purpose of the thread is just to get game recommendations. It's still enjoyable to see thoughts on games you've already played or even some games you would never play.

Re: Review the Last Game You Finished

I genuinely have a copy of Silent hill 1 and a copy of Silent Hill 2 in my room which I have never played. I wonder if I should play either of them.

I'm put off by the fact that the graphics are terrible by today's standards. But I believe that Silent Hill 2 is meant to be super scary psychologically

I thought that both 1 and 2 were scary. One had a really good atmosphere and a great setting to just scare the crap outta you. Two for me was a bit more gory and had a lot more weird **** to it.

Resident Evil 1 for me. That scared the living **** outta me. Also there was this game called "D" where you're this girl and your dad goes insane and kills everyone in this hospital. You end up in this alternate world. It wasn't like ZOMG THAT'S SCARY type scary, it was more the psychological scare. I guess sort of like Hitchcock type scary.

This is what Bioshock is for me. I love the game on one hand. But I've started and not finished it three times over the years but as much as I love the game and want to finish it, the game just keeps me feeling uncomfortable the entire time so that I always end up just stopping and not coming back to it.

That said, I'm still crazy excited about Infinite coming out that I'll probably get it right away and hope to finish that one!

Yea, obviously the graphics are atrocious now. Not to mention the terrible controls. It's still good for a few scares though, the tension and atmosphere of the game still gets to me.

Silent Hill 2 is by far the best installment in the series. The plot, the suspense that builds up through the game and the downright creepiness of the whole town makes it the best survival horror game I have ever played.

The HD collection would definitely be worth getting if you haven't played it before.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. 10/10

I'm on a kick replaying a lot of the games I grew up playing. Loved all the Indy games, but this is by far the best one. Having three different ways to complete helps add to the re-playability of it if you haven't played it. Excellent story and reasonably challenging. If anyone else is like me and loves the older adventure games I can recommend a ton, but you probably know them all already if you're a fan.

I blasted through Bioshock and it took me a while to beat 2. I kept putting it down and the story didn't really grab me that well. BS1 was a little slow for me up until a certain part where the story starts coming together.

New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo DS) - 8/10

Pretty solid 2D platformer. It became more fun in the later levels - early levels were bland. There are two entire worlds I haven't seen because there are "secret" ways to access them, like beating bosses as mini-Mario. That stuff annoys me. I've always disliked secret exits and such in 2D platformers because I don't want to have to replay levels multiple times looking for them. So despite the fact that I enjoyed the game, I don't think I'm going to bother trying to unlock the other levels.

Re: Review the Last Game You Finished

Fez (Xbox Live Arcade, $10) - 9.2/10

A delightful 2D platformer that takes place in a 3D world; you move in 2 dimensions, but can rotate the world 90 degrees at a time using the triggers to expose a new 2D plane to explore. The graphics are very old school and pixellated (yet sharp), with a very charming theme:

Your goal is similar to Mario 64; there are 60 cubes (like stars) in the game world for you to recover. Only 30 are required to "beat" the game, but it's more fun to try to find all 60. You'll encounter a lot of puzzles along the way, most of which are centered around the unique symbol language in Fez which must be translated into English to be read, as well as symbols representing controller buttons. When I couldn't figure out wtf the symbols meant within an hour of playing I took the easy way out and looked them up online, but for the determined gamer there is a rosetta stone of sorts demonstrating how to translate the symbols - you'll just be playing the game for a fair amount of time before you ever come across it, so patience is a must.

The only major problem in Fez is navigation; the many worlds/levels of the game are all connected through doors, and there are 5 specific worlds you can warp between using special warp gates. For the rest of these worlds:

traveling between them requires a good sense of direction to be able to navigate through multiple worlds to the nearest warp gate, warp to the gate nearest your destination, and then walk through a couple more worlds to get to where you want to go. Some worlds have 5-6 doors to other worlds, with no indication of which door goes to which world until you're standing in front of it. These worlds aren't all on your map to start with, so "explore the places I haven't been yet" is what you'll spend a lot of time doing, but once you figure out some puzzles and need to start backtracking to other levels to solve ones you couldn't figure out the first time you were there, this will be an annoyance.

That said, it's the only flaw in what is an otherwise very enjoyable platforming and puzzling experience, and for just $10 it's an absolute steal. Highly recommended.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Nintendo DS) - 8.5/10

For the first 5-10 hours I thought that Ghost Trick might have been the best adventure game released in the 21st century that I've played. The genre has been stagnant for literally over 20 years, and this was finally a fresh concept with a different style of gameplay. You play as a ghost who can possess and manipulate objects. You have to accomplish tasks by stringing various actions together.

The plot is your basic protagonist amnesia thing, which is almost always great for a while but usually collapses when the big revelations inevitably cannot be as interesting as it was when everything was still mysterious. I think in many cases with games (and other media) like this we'd be better off not getting the "answers" at all.

The game had some moments that made me genuinely laugh, which is extremely rare for me in games. Colorful characters. It's not too wordy (a problem I've already mentioned and will mention in future reviews), although towards the end it starts to get there. The text scrolls fast though so you're not frustrated by the pace.

Definitely a recommendation for anybody who likes adventure games. Most people would probably like it unless you can't stand non-action games.

Xbox360 Rage 7.9/10

IMO a solid shooter, nothing more, nothing less.

+ Some cool weapons like the wingstick or that pulsecannon
+ KI is pretty good, enemys are moving fast and taking cover
+ The car mechanics are well done
+ Kinda hard, cant just rush through enemys
+ nice artwork

Setting is cool, but nothing new if u played FO3 or Borderlands

- Missions are uber lame
- So is the story (lol ending)
- All the sidemissions and other things to do (racing, crafting, looting+selling) are boring. You just dont get enough reward for doing it, so there is not much sense in it...
-only one boss fight
- I had bigger hopes for it because it was said to be a mix of shooting/action/rpg and racer

But if you take it as what is you ll get some nice shooting action...

Good review for Rage. It could have been a great game, but the ending (if you could call it that) was horrible.

House of the dead: overkill (wii)

Silly game that's a lot of fun. Game is totally a joke. Story is hilarious. I can't believe this was released on the wii. Would get a higher review if it wasn't a rail shooter.

Haha, I had a lot of fun also with this game. The final boss and dialogue is quite disturbing IMO.
