Also not having time makes no sense really. If you just have one hour a day for gaming, you wont spend any more time gaming on hard/normal.

For most games Hard is a much more rewarding experience.
You are the troll here, how do you not see that? Are you a ****ing robot that honestly didn't understand what he was saying? Nope, you just felt inclined to point out that an hour takes an hour regardless of difficulty level - no way really?! Wow, you are so clever!
"Also not having time makes no sense really"

Lololol. You were trolling from the beginning. Wp, gtfo.

Understanding what he says =! agreeing with what he said.

You are the robot that cant get past that limited time to spend gaming = maximise utility by playing on normal, which is actually his point, my point is no, that is not the only way to look at it and as you keep admitting that is a truism. If I have limited time gaming I want as much utility from my time gaming and that is not achieved by cake walking all over a game just so I can fist pump and shout "progress." Maybe if you play the one game in the universe that is actually hard on hard then that changes the picture.

So you have no point what so ever apart from trolling (giving you the benefit of the doubt perhaps you are dumb enough to actually mean what you say.)

Pretty sure calling someone talking absolute level 1 common sense a douche bag is well you know ironic.

N/M I just saw your first "post" on the issue in which you seem to think this is some juvenile dick waving contest, ala you completely miss the point. This discussion seems like a magnet for dumb trolls.

I just recently beat Star Tropics on the VC for Wii.

I had played it and got up to the first spaceship like 4 years ago, but **** got too tough and I gave up.

Played it again, and enjoyed it. Wasn't quite as long as I remembered it, and the overworld is a little linear, but the dungeons are quite fun and challenging. If I had time in the morning to do only one pass through on a dungeon, I knew it wasn't worth it, because after work I wouldn't remember the lines I had to take and had to relearn it anyways.

For a NES game I give it a 9/10.

For a current game, I give it a 7/10.

i remember playing that game until i got swallowed by a whale and then could never get any further for some reason. i only rented it when i was like 7, so having to take it back to the rental store could have been why. i also remember the damn bosses being incredibly frustrating.

Don't really think I'm finished completely, but I'll review Dungeon Defenders on PS3 (also on Xbox 360, PC).

I've kinda been going through a spell where I've been playing a lot of games off PSN network as I haven't felt like shilling out for full priced titles and just want to play some different stuff currently.

I really liked Dungeon Defenders. It's basically tower defense except mixed with action role playing. You build your character (4 different classes) and choose between being a really killer player (kill enemies on your own) or being a really killer tower builder (kill enemies with towers). Lots of grinding, lots of item hunting. Fun little couch co-op game that my fiance really enjoyed playing with me. For fans of tower defense games or even action games with a lot of leveling. Quite fun and you could sink tons of time into this if you wanted to get super high leveled and own the hardest difficulties. Amazing replay value for a cheap downloadable game.

9/10.

From what I've read it's even better on PC (aren't most things? *sigh*)

Wow, an AMAZING first rate fan film to commemorate Last of Us. Man, xbox-only people must be real jealous that the best game of last few years is only on the ps3.

Why the hell doesn't 2+2 allow you to embed video? Here's the link instead.

I didn't really know what to expect when I started the game. Had heard it was highly lauded at one of the expos. The first thing that struck me was how similar it was to Walking Dead, the TV show. Especially when Joe/Ellie are walking on the highway or alone scavenging buildings. What makes this game so highly rated is the very movie-like drama. The cinematics are groundbreaking for a video game. You can make out movie out of the game. I mean literally create a movie-menage out of a walkthrough. Storytelling is incredible.

Weapon system is intuitive and works well. Combat with zombies are well-balanced, though I suggest HARD setting if you are a veteran game player.

Oh yeah and it's true, they did ripoff Ellen Page likeness. After finishing the game, I watched Juno and damn, the resemblance is amazing. Heard she got pissed but I think it's a great compliment. Hell, if they make a movie, she's definitely got to star in it. Page in Juno had the right type of spunkiness for Ellie.

I agree. In the last year or so I've started defaulting games on hard, rather than starting on normal and moving up to hard when it got too easy. It's been a much more fun experience because it challenges you to learn the game and increase your skills quickly.

Also, going back and doing "challenge" runs through my older favorite games has been very fun.

Shadowrun Returns - This is a pretty neat game. Seems a bit over priced at $20, since there is only may 12 hours of game play in the campaign, but I expect there to be a ton of user generated content.

The mechanics are definitely of an older style. This game feels like a game from a decade or so ago, but not in a bad way. It is a third person game with a turn based combat system. The save system is wonky right now, but that should be fixed at some point. The look is very stylized. Probably the biggest negatives are that the engine seems to be built for linear play, and guiding you or straight up forcing you between points. If you like story driven games, and the general look / feel of the game (check out you tube for some videos of it), you'll probably like the game. (and again, expect a lot of new free content built for the engine.)

Tropico 4: I am actually only like a quarter way through the first campaign and already I feel like I have gotten more than my money's worth. This is a city building game, where you are in control of a small island. You have to worry about money, people, political factions, foreign relations, and a bunch of little things that influence many areas (like pollution). The learning curve is not bad, with the first several scenarios teaching you various aspects of things. (For example, your economy can be based around exporting raw materials, manufacturing, tourism or (more likely) a combination of them all; there are three early mission that focus on the three main types of economic development).

Anyway, Tropico 4 is, so far, my most satisfying purchase of the summer sale.

Might have to check it out. I've been looking for a fun city building game due to my fond memories of Sim City as a child, but the latest Sim City instalments have been really terrible, and I was disappointed.

Rayman 3 HD (PSN) - 3/5

I've gone to a 5 star review system.

This game was better than I thought it would be. I love old-school 3D platformers and have played almost every good one. I recall the reviews being very lukewarm on this, and the demo I played at the time and even the new demo seemed to back that up. But it gets much better as it progresses.

Pretty good variety of environments and level design, simple puzzles, some levels with gigantic rooms that rival the classics (in terms of scope). Some bosses are really annoying and tedious, and there are a couple of spots with brutal checkpoints. In one spot I lost about 40 minutes of gameplay, although to catch back up a second time only took 10-15.

Overall it's good, although you probably have better unplayed options to satisfy your 3D platformer cravings unless you're like me.

I'm playing Demon Souls now for the first time (yeah a few years late) and plan on giving a review when I am done. I want to say I am about 18 hours in and halfway done...fml it can be brutal at times.

Yea, and of course its known as an exception to the rule, and one of the main reasons its rated as a game is because of the satisfaction of overcoming the difficulty.

I think is a poster boy for the progress in and of itself is not an apriori good argument.

i just asked since it'd be up your alley for difficult games. Not sure what you mean with your last paragraph.

The fact that you can say, "Feminists are ******ed. They generalize too much!" without noticing the irony is actually an impressive level of stupid.

Mass Effect

This so nearly ended up in the games I didn't finish thread. It's a slow starter and has a long list of minor faults but I'm glad I pushed through the initial indifference.

It's a space opera RPG. The plots the standard save the world from the returning evil and his henchmen but its done well. It's clear, it makes sense and its told with conviction. All within a well defined and coherent world.

Besides the story one of the other great strengths of ME is the feeling that your choices matter. You're frequently asked to make choices that will have negative effects for others and the best you can hope to do is to chose the least worst option.

The real time FPS combat while not perfect by any stretch of the imagination is good, mostly enjoyable and has a strategic element to it in the use of bio powers.

Now on to that laundry list of minor faults. It looks, not great and for a dialogue heavy game no effort has been made to do any lip syncing. While looking a little rough it also suffers from a lot of slow down which really detracts from the fighting.
The inventory systems horrible. The game throws new items at you constantly and because of the 150 item limit and the inability to discard more then one item at a time its a real chore to do your house keeping.
The vehicle sections are awkward and less fun then fighting on foot.
Building layout seemed needlessly confusing. I never got to grips with navigating the Citadel or even my own ship.
Side missions seemed a little repetitive even down to reusing building layouts. Too many busy work find all items quests and the big one, but one that ME shares with just about every RPG, the side missions really take away from the drama and tension. You're supposed to be on a race to defeat this monster threatening the galaxy but you can find time to moonlight on the side catching space chickens or searching for missing siblings. Like I say its a problem that bugs me about all RPGs that try to have a story about racing to combat evil before it can complete its doomsday machine but have optional side quests.

Despite those complainants I'm going to pick up ME2 tomorrow because I want to see how the story plays out and what effects my choices had on the galaxy. 8.5/10

Thought the story telling in ME1 was excellent.

Spoiler:
The first time you speak to sovereign is a real high point as you just dont see it coming and suddenly the stakes get raised really effectively.
