Inspired by JuntMonkey's review thread, here's the place to talk about the games you just couldn't or didn't want to finish before uninstalling. Try to stick to games you're pretty sure you won't be finishing, not ones you just got bored or sidetracked with and still plan to come back to.

Transformers: War for Cybertron | PC, XBox 360, PS3

I put about three hours in to this one before giving up. The voice acting is awesome and the characters are very cool, but the missions are so scripted and linear I couldn't be assed to keep going once I'd seen and heard my fill. The transforming is fun, in so far as it's very fluid and neat looking, but there didn't appear to be much thought put in to making the missions balanced upon an effective use of different forms. Megatron's tank form for example, had to be used in a few spots for boosting or shooting something with a cannon, but other than that I rarely used it.
The PC port is also pretty crappy, a really tight FoV from the console and the graphics look very low-res.

Far Cry 3. Played for a few hours, found it quickly got repetitive. Taking over bases and hunting get old fast, the driving is awful, the snide descriptions aren't funny and the combat is dull. But then I don't like military shooters.

Assassins Creed III

Got a few hours past what is basically the tutorial intro to where you take control of the main character as an adult.

Combat is simply boring and unenjoyable, and at this point the graphics are notably dated making the limitations and repetition of gameplay hard to sit through.

Have some fond memories of this series, despite it's limited scope in gameplay it was so atmospheric that just climbing around the world and taking in the sights was a rewarding experience for me. At this point the franchise feels incredibly tired and blaaaah.

Okami
Nice looking cel shaded zelda clone. Seemed like it might have been good but a painfully slow pace and the most annoying noises instead of real speech when characters spoke made me give up very early.

Bayonetta
The stupid opening cut scene that mistook swearing for humor and maturity didn't endear it to me, so when the difficulty suddenly spiked up on the second level to the extent that I couldn't clear half the enemies before the time limit ran out I put it down and never touched it again.

Red dead redemption
I really liked the setting and characters in this one but wasn't having fun. I spent ages ridding to get somewhere then got off the horse and was killed by a cougar out of the blue and I couldn't be bothered to ride all the way back so I stopped playing.

Couldn't agree more. I was really looking forward to playing this, having really enjoyed the 1st 2. I gave up a little after playing hide and seek.

Metal Gear Solid 4

I thought that I was a fan of the series (played the first 3), but I guess tastes change. The type of stealth gameplay this game uses seems mechanical and boring. Easy to just wait out timers and/or back into a corner and shoot guys. Story seems to be trying too hard to be deep and meaningful and just bothers me now. I get sick every time I consider giving the game another shot haha.

Had this for Gamecube and only got a few hours in, once in a while I get super stoned and think buying the HD remake off the PS store would be a good idea but imagine I wouldn't get through it a second time either. Think it's a really neat game just couldn't get into it, the jabber speech definitely didn't help anything.

I just gave up on The Witcher (the first one) after about 12 hours.

The RPG elements are fine. Quest conversations are somewhat interesting (but not amazing). Collecting a nice trading card set by sleeping around is amusing.

The combat is HORRIBLE. Probably the worst I've ever played with in an RPG type game. It consists of left clicking. Then left clicking again 3 seconds later during the right time of the animation. The long, drawn out animation that locks you in place. Drawing your sword shouldn't immediately elicit a reaction of "ugh, this sucks." but it does. Every time.

Inventory management and items suck. Do I need any of this crap I'm accumulating? Oh, I can brew potions with it. Yay I guess. Let's try that out. Well they don't seem to affect combat in any meaningful way at all since the whole experience is click... wait... wait... click... wait... wait... click. Spending "talents" or whatever they're called when leveling up seems to make no difference again because the combat is just so uninteresting and awful.

Finally I reached a required quest chain that basically said "Here's some clues, go around and find 10 stoney pendant pieces." Ten of them? Seriously? You know what, forget this. Goodbye.

I have heard the 2nd game got good reviews and I will try it out. This first one though? Clunky inventory for useless items. DEPLORABLE combat. Pointless skill points. Done with it.

The second one was supposed to have a lot of the same combat problems, but one of the devs just put out a huge overhaul patch that's supposed to fix a lot of those complaints. I had a few hours in The Witcher when it came out and never got hooked and forgot about it, and only about 30mins in to the second. They're games I want to like but just can't seem to find any interest for, for whatever reason

Assassins Creed (The original one)

Played few hours. Very repetitive.I doubt I will play it anymore (but I might try the never ones someday)

Just Cause (first one)

Just didn't like the gameplay.

AC1 sucks but AC2 is vastly improved. It took me 3 tries to get through the first game and when I finally made it through I just did the bear minimum required. Assassins Creed 2 is very good though. I have AC: Brotherhood sitting on my computer about half finished but it feels more like a standalone expansion to AC2 rather than a full game.

Never played W1. Combat system is better than Oblivion/Skyrim and also the monsters you fight are genuinely scary.

I also hated the W1 combat system, so if someone could compare the two, I'm pretty interested in finding a new RPG.

Hitman: Absolution

Don't get me wrong - this is a great game, and I can totally see how a lot of gamers would like this - you have certain set objectives, and you're pretty much on your own with how to complete it - whether through force, stealth, etc.....

but this open-endedness was basically my problem with the game. I'm essentially a video-gaming idiot, so I need some sort of guidance as to how to finish the level. When the game is as open as it is, I felt kind of overwhelmed with all my different options and how to go about the mission, so I just gave up. Yea, I'm dumb.

Odd, seems to me a lot of people have been complaining how linear and scripted the game is compared to past Hitman games, particularly Blood Money, which are much more open about how you approach and complete objectives. Is this your first Hitman game?

Ya, this was my first Hitman game I've tried - and if the other ones are even less scripted, then I should definitely stay away haha, thanks for the heads up!

Went through my XBL gamerscore, I have a bunch, several where I got to the VERY last level and didnt finish it, not because of difficulty or laziness (My gamerscore is over 50k and Ive torched all 3 current gen Ninja Gaiden games multiple times), but for some BIZZARE reason where I decide I will "see the ending later" and just move on and dont come back.

If the game has a star next to it, it means I plan to play it more and/or finish it off.

GOT TO THE LAST LEVEL:

N+: awesome 2D platformer, difficulty level is fairly high but overall A grade*
Super Meatboy: similar to N+, lots of trial and error, not for everyone*
Section 8 Prejudice: fairly average game, bad graphics and MEH combat, bad acting
Alien Breed 1: (pretty good 2D/3D top down shooter, I think I moved and forgot about it)

GAMES I DIDNT GET THAT FAR IN

SWTOR: realized I dont like MMOs around lvl40
Alan Wake (PC): incredible graphics, but combat bored me and story is just OK, probably better if you are a giant Stephen King / Twin Peaks fan
Bionic Commando ReArmed 2: music wasnt as good as the 1st one, but gameplay is solid*
Castlestorm: realized the game is shallow and not worthy of another 3 hours play
Fez: Got confused as ****, but game is amazing, I failed this game
Hydrophobia: game was OK for the price, nothing special, got bored
Insanely twisted Shadow planet: got stuck, couldnt advance, dont remember why*
Iron Brigade: pretty cool, but my coop buddy hated it. I guess I just like Mechs
Mark of The Ninja: game wont let you save mid level. I would get close to the end and fall asleep, the game is so damn dark, lol. But fun stealth action 2D game*
Outland: awesome game, got stuck, I think the game really may have glitched, tried for hours to figure it out and watched a video and just couldnt advance*
Rez: amazing game, beat it on my friends XBL account but not my own*
Spartacus Legends: this game is hilariously bad
Double Dragon Neon: game is great, classic 80s tunes and beatem up fun, need coop buddy*
007 Reloaded: decided I wanted to get the tough achievements, and got my ass kicked
GI Joe: game is putrid
GRID: good racing game, got OCD about getting 1st at 24hours of LeMans and failed
Midnight Club LA: good racing game, realized I needed a ton of hours and said F it
Condemned 2: realized I dont like melee combat THAT much
Eternal Sonata: realized I dont like JRPGs
Splinter Cell Double Agent: its no Chaos Theory, 'nuff said

I have more unfinished games on PS3 and PC, and Wii. But its not as easy for me to see, due to not all games having achievements/trophies etc.

I think if anything this list made me realized how many games I HAVE finished, including a lot of really mediocre and bad ones!

I hated Eternal Sonata as well. But I went through it like a trooper anyway. I think it may have been my first PS3 game finished. It actually may not have been that bad if it did not have voices. That's what was killing me was the long, poorly written dialogue sequences delivered by bad actors.

Pinball Arcade (PS3) - 9/10

I guess I have to review this here since there's technically no "finishing" it. It's a simulation of real pinball machines, available for pretty much every system including iOS. It's currently free on Playstation Plus.

Four tables are included with the base game, and they're quite fun. Tales of the Arabian Nights, Theater of Magic, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Black Hole in approximate order of greatness. The first 3 are the more "modern" style where the boards are quite complex with cool technology, lots of fun modes, "endings" if you do quite a bit of work to get to them, etc.

There are 3 trophies (not sure if it's the same on non-PS3 systems) for each table - one for a high score, one for achieving 5 simple goals, one for achieving 5 difficult goals. There is an addictive quality to this game, and I can see why people get entranced by slot machines (the sounds, the pretty lights, the cool things going on). I want to say pinball could be a great tool to wean people off of slots, but at $0.50-$1.00 a pop in real life that might be more -$EV than some slots.

I briefly tried demos for the Star Wars and Marvel pinball games (completely separate games by other companies). Those are not based on real tables, and I feel like that makes a huge difference. Even though you are only playing a computer simulation with TPA, it feels "real" since you know it's closely emulating a real-life table. The special effects that would be really cool in real life are still cool in TPA.

Many more tables are available as DLC, in small and large bundles. Highlights include Twilight Zone, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Creature From the Black Lagoon (one of my favorite things ever). There is currently a Kickstarter going on for them to be able to purchase the rights to Terminator 2, and hopefully the legendary Addam's Family will be coming shortly thereafter. I definitely plan on eventually buying every single table, but I'll wait for sales and maybe the in-development PS4 version.

Definitely get your hands on this if you're nostalgic for any of these tables or for pinball in general.
